Hi all,

I don't want to connect my Steam account with GOG Galaxy. However, I would like to have my playing time tracked on Galaxy for one particular game I have on Steam. Therefore, if I install the game via the Steam client and manually add the game to my GOG Galaxy and start playing from there... will Galaxy be able to track my playing time?

cheers.
yes and no

no if you just run the game from whatever exe but yes if you first run whatever launcher controls the game

so for example a Steam controlled game expects Steam [the app] to be running in the background and if you first open Steam, then tell Galaxy to run that game it will track the time played... to be clear, Galaxy will not stop tracking the game until you also turn of its launcher i.e, this example turn off Steam is when Galaxy will say okey that game has stopped running now

Thank you for the answer! Does the Steam client have to be on-line or it's ok to be in off-line mode? I assume off-line mode should also work.

And a follow-up question: So now the game playing time is tracked. Great, but is the history of the hours played kept? Meaning, will the time appear against the game in the overall games page on a clean install of GOG Galaxy?
1st yes having Steam in the off line mod works for tracking time... it may encounter game play issues because Steam likes to turn textures off unless you connect at some point

2nd the time played on Gog counts as being different to time played on Steam so for example you play 20 hours of Warhammer on Steam, then link the exe to Galaxy and play another 10 hours = steam says you played 30 hours and Gog says you played 10

Great, thanks for the answers, that's exactly what I was looking for. I anyway only look to play via GOG, however some special games are only available on Steam (like Starfield... which may eventually end up on GOG, but I reckon it's quite a few years away).
some games are hard wired to Steam... if you hit issues one workaround is to link to the Steam app instead so if Starfield.exe isn't playing ball unlink it and link Galaxy to steam.exe instead

i have to do this in order to get total war hammer to run but battlefield is happy just with the game.exe
