It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

This is really quite frustrating. I hate having to scour forums and look for workarounds for this software.
In any case, I cannot update the GOG galaxy, as many people have already reported, because "an error" prevents it, and instead I am prompted to download it. I do that. And once I download the installer, and it downloads whatever else it needs (about 300 MB apparently), I get the error message that GOG galaxy is "already running", and I must close it. Even using every aspect of Task Manager to search for any instances of it running -- which it is not -- I keep getting this error.
Any tips for yet another workaround? The constant prompt for updating is driving me crazy.
thanks in advance

ofmyformerself: I get the error message that GOG galaxy is "already running", and I must close it.
1. In GOG Galaxy, click the cogwheel in the top left and choose Settings.
2. Click General on the left.
3. Make sure "Launch GOG Galaxy at system startup" is not checked, then click the X in the top right to close the window.
4. Click the cogwheel and choose Exit.
5. Restart your system.
6. Start File Explorer and make sure the C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\lock-files folder is empty. If there are any files there, delete them.
7. Launch the latest full installer. That page is a bit difficult to parse visually in browsers other than Firefox, but hopefully you can see the second link is for Windows.
