Azzigoth: Sad to see this is an ongoing issue. GOG Galaxy was a really great solution for library management.
jdm12983: You do know that this isn't a GoG maintained plugin right? It's made by the community; no point in getting annoyed at GoG/devs about it.
Does anyone know if the reason it goes "offline" on every restart might be tied to having the Steam Guard enabled? (the extra security thing of having to enter a code from the phone app every time you log in.)
Dr3x1: I likewise have thoroughly scoured this thread and tried all of the solutions found therein. None work for longer than a day or two when the plugin becomes stuck "offline" again. Completely removing the plugin and reconnecting will work every time, but again, only for a little bit. Regretably I can't continue to use GOG 2.0 unitl this is fixed. I have patiently dealt with this issue for many months now, and constnatly spend more time struggling with the app than I do enjoying it's many perks. I really hope this gets addressed soon. :(
jdm12983: You will stop using GoG Galaxy completely because of a non-working community made plugin?
I mean, people do know that the Steam integration thing wasn't made by the GoG Galaxy devs; right?
Yeah, isn't "Steam Guard" GRAND???
I've largely bailed on Steam at this point over their ongoing attempts to screw over paying customers... the company which created Half-Life is long, long gone now and what you have there instead are a gang of predatory lawyers, mainly.
They purposefully disabled WIndows 98 back in the day... then they disabled WinXP (despite many of the games in the library never being updated to work on anything newer than XP), and they're now preparing to disable Win7. Sure, Microsoft wants to push the world onto Win10, but it still... years after release... continues to have the same problems it's always had (not the least of which are forced upgrades the end-user has no choice in which break already-installed software, or disables hardware, or so forth).
With GoG, I can still theoretically install games downloaded from here on Win9x... and absolutely can do so on WinXP. My access to stuff on Win7, which remains my preferred OS, will not be interrupted.
Sure, Galaxy doesn't work under XP, and who knows if they'll disable it on Win7... but as long as GoG doesn't alter their rule about "No DRM," that doesn't prevent you from installing or running on a "non-galaxy" OS.
I haven't bought anything from Valve in years now. And don't plan to anytime soon. GoG has taken that role, though I take as many "freebies" as I can get from Epic, etc, too.
But... the whole deal with "Steam integration" failing... which is ultimately my point... is that VALVE KEEPS INTENTIONALLY DISRUPTING IT!
They don't WANT you to use any other interface. They want you to ONLY use their "store" and their "launcher" and their "library" and so forth.
It's petty, and ridiculous, but I have it on good authority (one of the few actual programmers still employed at Valve, trying to get by in an organization run by lawyers and with absolute disdain for actual programmers!) that they're doing this on purpose.
Just like they forced GoG to stop with the "games you own on Steam, you can now get for free on GoG" program... which has been dead for quite a while now, hasn't it? It's been how many years since any new items have been added to that list?
Valve... not the Valve of old who created magnificent games like Half-Life and Portal and so on, but TODAY'S Valve, who are basically a shovelware site run by people who've never played a single game in their life!... don't want GOG Galaxy to be able to "integrate" with Steam. So, of course, they've assigned programmers to find ways to block this.
Their latest bit is especially silly. The "steam guard" thing won't send the "code email" if you're not accessing it from either (a) and "approved browser" or (b) Steam itself. Using an "unapproved browser?" You won't get the code sent. No warning... just no "code email." And using "Galaxy," or any other service, not identifying itself to Valve as "officially approved?" Yep... no email sent.
They don't TELL you that they won't send it. They just don't. Or, perhaps, they send it several hours later... they did that for a while, too.
It's ridiculous, and offensive... and it's working, so far, it seems.
