Every time I try to replace any art for a game in Galaxy 2.0 I get the message:

"Image override for _____ failed. Try different image format or size."

I've tried 342x482 and 660x930 for cover art in JPEG and PNG files, but they all get the same message. I've tried the other workaround on the forum, and that doesn't work either. The games that had custom art still have their art saved.

Bump, this is still happening.

Also started having this problem again. And it only happens with Steam games.
Uninstalling GOG and creating a fresh install does not help.

I can confirm this. I tried that multiple times and it still didn't work.
I have the same sh*t. Techsup can't help. No solution for this issue guys? :(
Same issue here, getting same error on two different PCs for months now, with second installation having been a fresh install after this started. Happens with non-Steam games as well, every platform has same issue including manually added games. Issue for me started abruptly when changing the pics on several games, suddenly just started getting error. For a minute I could add new pics by taking one off from another but that stopped working quick too. Already commented about this on someone else's report on the issue tracker.

I am still experiencing this issue, and it's actually gotten worse. I now can't even change the art on custom games, or my GOG owned library.
Still an issue. Bumping
These lines appear in the logs when error occurs:

[Error][ (0)] [TID 13120][galaxy_client]: [JS] Unmapped error description: owned images limit reached when uploading image override

Well, GOG has set a limit on uploading custom images for covers.

That's just dumb. Having done some digging, Galaxy stores custom images as .webp images, which compared to the original uploaded image, is microscopic (usually less than a 500 kilobytes).

Hi, I know this is from months ago but has anyone figured out a fix to this? I've been unable to change my cover art for a month now, and tried multiple clean reinstalls.

Still an issue as of 25th November 2021. Any solutions in sight?

I'm pissed that this is what I have to do, but you can manually search through your saved grid images and replace them locally. Go to C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\webcache, find the folder with a long string of numbers, and all your grid images for all your connected platforms will be in there. With Steam games you can use SteamDB.info to find game IDs easier and the 'generic' folder is alphabetized, but aside from that you have to dig. You can just rename JPEGs or PNGs to WEBP and it'll work.
This little tool automates the process of fixing corrupted images of your games: RepairGOG-GalaxyImages
