fixitman: No backups here, so that won't work for me. I'll just put up with it until I finish the latest NMS expedition. After that, I'm removing Galaxy from my system. Galaxy has too many issues for my liking anyways.
XOMTOR: You could uninstall and re-install an older version. You will need to redo any bookmarks you made on the sidebar as well as re-link EXEs for manually added games (could be a giant PITA if you have a ton of manually added games) but everything else will be there upon re-install, including custom artwork.
Personally, my fave version of Galaxy is
2.0.46.133 Here's the offline installer:
https://content-system.gog.com/open_link/download?path=/open/galaxy/client/2.0.46.133/setup_galaxy_2.0.46.133.exe Predates the recent changes to the sidebar as well as the Discover "feature". Also, seems to use less RAM and just feels more stable overall. Plus, the option to hide the Store in the settings menu actually works (unlike recent versions). I myself like having the store there, but at least it's an option for those who don't.
If you go this route, make sure you block updates as Galaxy likes to auto-update itself (doesn't all software/firmware/apps these days? Grrrr...)
As an aside, I'm not opposed to the changes GOG is making to increase discoverability, in fact I welcome them. Hell, Steam does it all the time. The difference is that Steam has found a way to do so while integrating well with your game library. Personally, I think GOG is on the right track as Galaxy has a much nicer interface than the Steam client; they just need a few tweaks like allowing re-organization of the sidebar and a more tasteful location of the "similar games" on the game details screen.
The newest version is absolutely slower than the version you posted, which is not good. You are right that they need to find a tasteful way to integrate recommendations, or at least give options to disable these 'features.'
