cousta: Here's what works for me on macOS:
1. make sure that any other system account is logged out
2. open a terminal and run /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists/GalaxyCommunication
3. launch GOG Galaxy

GalaxyCommunication will immediately exit if any other account is still logged in. I assume it's a poorly thought-through attempt to prevent GOG account sharing.
Just came here to say that this is what solved it for me, might be helpful for someone else

Apple M2 Pro, running on Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)
ALSO I CANNOT SAVE MY GAME AS IT CRASHES INSTANTLY!
SCREW YOU GOG, I WILL PIRATE ALL MY GAMES FROM NOW ON!

Not sure what solved for me, however everytime I open the client I have to disable and re-enable the item in login settings and run the script that others have posted that works for them. Sometimes a reboot is required as well, sometimes not.

But these steps should all be unnecessary if they would fix the client. GoG is currently my last option as a go to for games launcher/buying. If Prime Gaming from Amazon didn't give away GoG content I would probably have scrubbed every trace of Galaxy Launcher from my computer and my memory.

I may still abandon it completely for Heroic Games Launcher if this isn't fixed.
This was first reported in 2021 and has still not been fixed:
/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/gog_galaxy_loses_connection_and_immediately_shuts_down

Seriously is it so hard to fix this? What are they smoking over there?

Here is some pseudo-code for the developers, if there are any:

IF (stupidConnectionProcesss is NOT running):
Run stupidConnectionProcess

Bill is in the mail.
The solution is to manually run /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists/GalaxyCommunication separately and ensure the program is still running (has not exited) while gog galaxy is running. Someone even wrote a bash script to run both programs at the same time:

gog.com/forum/general/connection_to_gog_galaxy_communication_service_was_lost/post126

However, you can easily run it manually as well (that is what I do), with terminal or by clicking on it. I personally run it more or less at the same time when I open galaxy, but the author of the post I linked recommends to run it just after galaxy is initialised.

Note that when you run GalaxyCommunication a terminal opens and runs a command in the background. However, it might finalise and stop running (you don't want that). When it does finalise it shows "process completed" or something along those lines, then you know you need to run it again (don't worry about running it more than once by mistake, each time your try to run it it will actually kill by itself the previous process).

Someone pay this person!

Also, GoG, why are you so slow to fix this? The app is barely usable on windows as well as Mac, I don't understand why you don't hire someone to fix it. Telling us there is a web version isn't a great look.

PS I've been waiting for you to provide me with the warcraft II keys I paid for for around a year... the only response I got was "we are aware of the issue and are working on it". Any chance you want to give me the keys or a refund?
September 2nd, 2024 still no fix? Same f** issue? Want my money back" s*ckes!
Just bought this game and like the others, GOG galaxy fails to launch. While I appreciate the posts that express the work around through the terminal I personally refuse to do it. I'm not here to monkey wrench a program to work. This is GOG's responsibility and one they haven't taken seriously for at least a couple of years from the posts. I've asked for a refund and will get it from Steam. Sept 2024 Mac M1 Ultra maxed out
Similar story for me. Now it works, then it doesn't. Even if it works I still can't install the game I want, because settings in the app are not working as expected.

The disabling/re-enabling the setting seemed to work for me, at least for now.

lv2jmp: It appears that if you are logged into gog.com the website, this counts as a second connection. Once I closed the gog.com window in the browser, this workaround solved the problem for me!

I have two entries there, "GOG Galaxy.app" and "GOG Sp. z o.o.". They are enabled even if "Launch GOG Galaxy at system startup" is disabled in GOG Galaxy Settings. I don't know why or what they do, so I had them disabled. On update GOG Galaxy would complain about service failure and shut itself down. After I enabled them it worked again.
None of those solutions worked for me. I had to:

1. Uninstall GOG Galaxy using an external open-source app called PearCleaner, then install it again (GOG Galaxy started to launch). I also uninstalled Baldur's Gate 3 using PearCleaner.
2. Download and install Baldur's Gate 3 through GOG Galaxy, then close GOG Galaxy manualy or by kill command.
3. Run Baldur's Gate 3 manually by clicking on: /Applications/Baldur's\ Gate\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/Baldur's\ Gate\ 3\ GOG
(This starts the Larian Launcher from the terminal)
4. Follow the instructions from Larian Studios to set the graphics to 1280x720 in the file: $HOME/Documents/Larian\ Studios/Baldur's\ Gate\ 3/graphicSettings.lsx

For more information, visit:
https://larian.com/support/faqs/crashing-upon-startup-mac_91

Thanks to these steps, there's no need to use the crashing GOG Galaxy, and the game works perfectly from the Larian Studio launcher:
/Applications/Baldur's\ Gate\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/Baldur's\ Gate\ 3\ GOG
