Guys, maybe you never use your own software, but it really is s...uboptimal.
For quiet some time now Galaxy is not able to auto update.
If I reinstall Galaxy it does not detect former Game-Librarys, I need to download everything again.
There is no Linux support.
And is there even a place where I can see the latest release version of Galaxy?
Not to mention that on my htpc with screen scaling Galaxy seems fundamentaly broken.
I really dont give anything about being able to manage by Steam games in a piece of s...oftware that is funamentally broken.
Fixate on the important things and then, when everything works good, add support for s...omething I dont need!

The issue is fixed in the current version. Download the full installer 2.0.60.2 for Windows or 2.0.60.2 for Mac and launch it while GOG Galaxy isn't running. After you manually update to this version, it should be able to update automatically from that point on.

If you uninstall GOG Galaxy, it will wipe your user data. If you want to upgrade manually, just run the installer while the old version is still installed.
If you somehow lose your list of installed games, click the cogwheel in the top left, choose Add Games & Friends, then Scan Folders for GOG Games.

Bookmark this JSON file. It will point to the latest versions for Windows and Mac, unless they bump the major version from 2.

The November 2nd 2023 update would also not auto-update and I had to download the installer. Your "From that point on" was worth nothing at all.
Galaxy is and always will be Beta! This software is complete shit and you should not defend what is broken.
Boy do I regret having bought into "DRM free" for way too long. If only I had bought Cyberpunk and so many other games on something that works, like Steam.
GOG SUCKS!
Gog galaxy works, auto-update works, the issue is from your side.

Try to add gog galaxy is your antivirus exception list.

Try to uninstall it with revo uninstaller and after, check if every folder named "gog.com" are deleted.

Stop be pissed off by something meaningless like auto-update not working, I need to download every nvidia driver manually. I am crying? Noo I move on. It's OK

Above all, Galaxy is slow and sluggish. That's what annoys me the most.
It's really really badly made and poorly maintained

I thought we were talking about GOG Galaxy, not Steam XD

WRONG. Galaxy auto-update is broken for most users.

I was just hit by this bug and couldn't update. So I downloaded the latest version manually.
And guess what? The latest version also has the infinite check for galaxy updates bug!!
Next time it gets updated, I will have to download it manually AGAIN and this isn't even the first time.
They NEVER FIXED IT after hundreds of users reported this bug over a year ago on these forums.

This POS software is broken and needs to be taken out of circulation.
Stop defending this poorly maintained mess.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the OP here, the software is in a dire state. It's a second patch in a row for me where it downloads the entire BG3 instead of patching it .... it's a pain in the backside.
As a GOG-supporter of 10+ years it's becoming harder and harder to recommend GOG and the Galaxy client. For example the game-overlay was introduced with the release of the Witcher 3 some 8 (?) years ago. It was barebones then, it is barebones now and it still doesn't properly scale on high-resolution displays. It seems more issues got introduced than fixed in recent months and the Galaxy client has seen better days overall.

Word on the street is that staff from the Galaxy team was pulled (after a difficult few years) in order to become profitable again. Because of the ongoing quality of life issues it would require some serious commitment from GOG to put together a client software that is reliable, secure and functional / fun to use. Overworked staff will hardly be able to get the client back on track all by themselves.
Downloading 130GB of BG3 for a 30GB patch is bad enough, but when Galaxy decides I am offline halfway through as well?

Yep been getting this on a completely fresh install on a new computer, same as my last one, only launcher that says I'm "Offline" when it happens.
»It seems more issues got introduced than fixed in recent months and the Galaxy client has seen better days overall.«

This can be solved by picking an older version and sticking with it. I am using 2.0.37
ttps://cdn.gog.com/open/galaxy/client/2.0.37.384/setup_galaxy_2.0.37.384.exe

I have tried some newer versions and saw hardly any improvements, but instead some introduced small annoyances.
