I tried installing GOG Galaxy 2.0 yesterday, and it seemed to be successful; but when I tried to open it, nothing happened. I looked in Task Manager and saw that the GOG Galaxy process opened, and then closed again after a few seconds.

Anyone else having or had this issue? I'm on Windows 8.1.

You know, I'm starting to think that it's not a "bug", but a deliberately created restriction for Windows 7 and 8 users.

I mean, there weren't any major changes in the last update. At least none of the features listed in the changelog could break compatibility with Windows 7 and 8.

It reminds me of that situation with The Bard's Tale IV, where it SUDDENLY stopped working on anything older than Windows 10.

I'd really like to be wrong about this whole situation, but I have a bad feeling that nothing will be fixed.

For now, you can only switch to the previous stable version:

This is really very unfortunate for the GOG customer. I'm halting all purchases here until something gets worked out.
I don't want to put more eggs in this basket only for the bottom to fall out.
Does anyone have a link to version 2.0.39?

You can still play your games with the offline installers. GOG Galaxy is more of an optional component than an essential one. It would be nice if it worked, but you can live without it.

Unlike the Steam client..

Could you also find 2.0.38 installers?

Here it is:

https://cdn.gog.com/open/galaxy/client/2.0.38.344/setup_galaxy_2.0.38.344.exe

But keep in mind that this version has an issue with launching games that use command line parameters. (ScummVM, DOSBox)
sadly none of these versions work for me. No error, just mouse loading icon, then nothing. even tried disabling the firewall and av, no joy
This worked (older, but works)
OK, so went to an older version 2020 (1.2.67) https://gog-galaxy.en.uptodown.com/windows/versions

Works for me until they get a W10 fix

The problem was introduced in 2.0.38

We're looking into Windows 8.1 issues currently. Please use offline installers for games for now, or alternatively update your OS to Windows 10.

Keep your eyes open on GOG GALAXY updates on nearest weeks.

Sorry for the issue you've experienced. :(

LOL
Missed by a mile, this started when I CHANGED TO W10. It was working GREAT in Windows 7.
Oddly, as I mentioned before, I went back to GALAZY 1.2.67 -

The old Galaxy works fine. Does the job fine.

where do I download this new update (Aug 19th, 2021) 2.0.41.xx
The website keeps showing 2.0
when I download that one and install, it still fails to load on windows 10
I'm having problems with this as well, with a twist.
I just installed it on my laptop because my desktop computer is in for service right now.
On my desktop computer it's running just fine, on my laptop however i will not run not run no matter what.
Both computers are running Windows 7.
The previous versions suggested by others here does not work either
