In Windows 10 I download the file and run it as Administrator
I get a popup with:
GOG_Galaxy_2.0.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).

1. Get the latest full installer, which is currently setup_galaxy_2.0.55.99.exe (JSON link to the latest version)

2. Install both vc_redist.x86.exe and vc_redist.x64.exe then restart your system.

3. Don't run it as Administrator; let it prompt you.

It's something called a stub installer. It's a small download that in turn downloads additional components from the Internet. I don't know how it works out for GOG Galaxy specifically, but the idea behind this type of thing is to save bandwidth by only downloading the parts needed for your specific setup (for example, the 32-bit or 64-bit version, or the exact localization).

The GOG Galaxy installer I linked to above is the full package and doesn't download any additional stuff.

step 1 - find out if you have a Windows or Mac system

step 2 click the link for Windows or Mac which downloads the complex Galaxy app

step 3 make a custom folder [not c program files if Windows] then install the app
