Kinda sucks if you ask me. Angry Joe explains all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQfHdasuWtI

Gaming videos and even legit interviews getting claimed by random unknown entities and they don't get paid for the videos they made. Sucks for people like AJ who puts alot of effort into making game reviews and his videos in general. It's starting to affect some of my favourite Youtubers and I don't blame them if they lose the motivation to make anymore videos if this continues on.
That's what happens when you rely too much on the cloud controlled by someone else but you.

Hopefully AJ has kept local copies of all his reviews. At least then he could simply upload them to some competitor of Youtube (like Vimeo? Or Tube8, for all I care.) , or even self-publish them on his own web site.

But I guess Youtube has become a dominant force, like Google, Facebook or Steam.

Getting your own streaming server as a small company is absurdly expensive. I haven't tried it myself, but my company did a few months before hiring me and I've seen the numbers.

But this Totalbiscuit and Angry Joe we are talking about. I am certain they can afford it. Or they can join the Escapist or Angry Joe can fully join Nostalgia Critic's site.

Joining some other streaming service is one thing, but starting a new one from scratch, then looking for sponsors etc? I really can't recommend that, or even picture it happening successfully. That said, I'm all for abandoning YT, google is getting scarier by the day. They got a good friend of mine a few months back, too.

Google buying youtube is the worst thing to ever happen ever.

Where would you rate EA buying Bullfrog, then?

That's the problem.

Somewhere above EA buying Westwood.

Not your own physical server. Use a cdn, become a customer, not a product.

One even is buying a video game company that was pretty much burnt down at the point anyway

The second is about buying the biggest home made videos platform in the world earning 6 billion dollars a year and on which thousands of people are making a living.

Oh my, how do they compare!

Angry Joe is already part of NC's site of Channel Awesome.
TB isn't affected by the content ID shit, as far as I know.

There are many other Youtubers getting their videos claimed here and there.

As bad as EA buying Westwood, but I don't want to enter another EA argument..
