Does Fifth Element count?

Serenity
First Contact
Titan AE

er... weird. i have problem with actually naming space movies. did like lost in space too but dind't love it.
enjoyed SW movies too but they are more in meh side of the scale than great. Music was epic.
oh. and i do talk about all six of them.
Haven't seen 2001. got pretty boring quickly but i was not in proper mood when i watched it. loved the book tough.
Aliens... liked the fourth one. have not seen the firs tone. didn't care that much for Alien 2 and 3. They were good cinema. Not loved by my tough.
Yeah, The Last Starfighter deserves much better than "honorable mention". Along with its many virtues, it was also the wonderful Robert Preston's last movie.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951, not the remake) may still be the best ever. Klaatu barada nikto.
The Last Starfighter
The Empire Strikes Back
Apollo 13
2001 or Forbidden Planet, pick 'em.

And I really want John Carter of Mars to be as good as it should be, not as bad as it is likely to be.

Can we count Total Recall? Or does it have to be set "in" space rather than on a different planet?
1. Aliens
2. Enemy Mine
3. Forbidden Planet
4. Planet of the Apes (Original)
5. Star Trek (2009)
Top 5

1. Sunshine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ2-xR54UDU

1. Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan

2. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

3. Forbidden Planet

4. Alien

5. Galaxy Quest
Most have already been named so . . .

I did like Mission to Mars - pulling the ol helmet off in deep space was riveting.

Also, even though not highly rated, Red Planet because I was a Carrie-Anne Moss fan back then.

lukaszthegreat: Does Fifth Element count?
Does for me...

In no particular order:

Star Wars: A New Hope
Alien
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fifth Element
Moon

Honorable mentions (and guilty pleasures):

Lost in Space
Apollo 13
Outland
Wrath of Khan
Solaris
Serenity
War of the Worlds
Personal top 5 space movies:

1. Alien

2. Event Horizon

3. Pitch Black- In spite of the fact that Vin Diesel stars in it, it's actually quite good, imo.

4. Aliens

5. 2001: A Space Odyssey
5??? Only 5???

dayamm!

Aliens.
Star Trek 2. : Wrath of KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHN!
Silent Running.
Enemy Mine.
Serenity.

No particular order.

Other choices :
2001:Space Odyssey
Star Wars : A new hope
Stargate
DarkStar (Basically, it's a cheesy, earlier version of Alien....except the creature is....a beach ball!)
Forbidden Planet (early appearance, and a serious role, for Leslie Nielson. Great in this!)
Andromeda Strain (probably the only decent Michael Crichton story, ever)
Babylon5 (yes, there were films - straight-to-DVD/Made-for-TV though they were)
Capricorn 1 (OJ Simpson FTW!!)
Outland (Sean Connery as a cop on a moon of Saturn (or was it Jupiter??))
This Island Earth

Pathetic excuses for films:
Armageddon
Armageddon
Total Recall
Armageddon
Red Planet
Armageddon
Armageddon
Mission to Mars
Armageddon
ET
Armageddon.

Lone3wolf: Outland (Sean Connery as a cop on a moon of Saturn (or was it Jupiter??))
Jupiter. It was a mining operation on Io. Gotta say I love this movie far more than I probably should.

High Noon in outer space. Sean Connery is no Gary Cooper, but it avoids moralizing and makes no pretense of being anything but gory fun. So it's a perfectly valid guilty pleasure.
1. Sunshine
2. 2001
3. For All Mankind
4. Solaris
5. Alien

Honorable mentions: Moon, Cargo, Destination Moon, Outland, Apollo 13.
Sunshine had such potential. I loved the beginning, but the last third totally ruined the movie for me.
In no particular order,

The Right Stuff (1983)
Star Wars (1977)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Alien (1979)
2001: A Space Odyessy (1968)

"Interstellar" selection of top space films, fellow starfighters!
