WeR138: Deadly Premonition looks like it's right up my alley. Unfortunately my backlog of games puts me playing it sometime in the year 2018. On the bright side, by then it should only be a couple of dollars.

Then again, I'd really like to play that game......
If you have some spare cash, don't hesitate. Or hunt for it in your present boxes during the promo and get it now for a couple of bucks.
If the Black Lodge under your username is this one, you'll fall in love with Deadly Premonition before you even start playing :)

Goatbrush: Just reading some about this game, I missed it completely somehow, despite it being a genre I generally enjoy and it sounding like something I'd be interested in. I'll have to check it out in the new year.
You won't regret it :)

zavlin: hm! yeah i hadnt heard of deadly premonition either. Looks interesting.
And it is :) Especially for Twin Peaks fans and weird games fans :)

Licurg: There were several, but I have to say, Lone Survivor did it for me. It's basically Silent Hill 2, but in 2D .
lol, Lone Survivor: another game on my wishlist. Where to find the time? Maybe if I quit my job.
Deus Ex, hand's down.

Would be worth it . After all, if you have a gun, a bucket and blue and green pills, you can survive anything .

I'm ashamed to say I looked up a brief FAQ while playing Lone Survivor as I was getting frustrated at how awful I was at the game, but I realized in doing so that I was just scratching the surface of the things you can actually do. I think I got a poor ending. Must play through it again sometime to try to do better.

It changes every ten minutes. For the last ten minutes it's been Jade Empire but that's only because it looks so cool and yet I only just started the very first scene.

Yesterday morning I was having a blast with Spelunky so that would have been my answer.

Last night Daniel Alfredson scored a goal in OT to put the Red Wings over the Flames so that was my game of there year right then.

Tomorrow it will be a different game. By noon it will be another.
There was only one game that i truly enjoyed this year:
Rogue Legacy
Ah, this is a best-game-of-the-year-thread I can get behind! :D I usually don't play games the year they are released, because I tend to wait until they are fully patched up, with all DLC available, all at -75% off before I buy them.

So, I think my absolute favorite game this year is Resident Evil: Revelations! It was just a great throwback to older RE titles, while it also included the best mechanics of newer games! I think it can best be described as a combination of the Resident Evil 4 gameplay with the pre-RE4 storylines.

The runner-up is Dead Space. I loved the surroundings and the atmosphere of the game, and the only reason RE beats it (apart from nostalgia - I and the RE series go way back - ) is because it has more adventure game elements in it, which I love. (Huge fan of the adventure genre.)

EDIT:
I'm not done playing games yet, though! Gonna finish Indana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis tonight, and then I'm moving on to System Shock II and a 3DS game that has yet to be decided, so maybe my favorite game changes by the end of the year. :)

VTM: Bloodlines.

But there have been lots of other games I really enjoyed, too.

Reveenka:
Every fan of horror and adventure should check The Cat Lady :) I don't say every such person should love the game as I do, but... just check it :)

I do the same thing, I didn't mind so much in the pre-DLC days but from a value perspective on a limited budget I find it much better to wait.

I haven't played revelations yet, but I've played RE 1 through 5 and I've enjoyed them all. Another game I will check out next year. :D

yep, the cat lady is a special game. Its got its share of problems, but regardless it is a very worthy purchase. Its a pretty unique adventure.
It is hard to make a decission since most of the games I bought this year are great but I think I am picking The Witcher.

Oh, I can assure you it's on my long list of games I'd like to play! My biggest issue is finding the time. :p

Oh, there are plenty of reasons to wait. You don't have to deal with major first-day issues, most bugs and problems will have been patched by the time you pick the game up, DLC will also have been released and patched, and the price of the complete edition will usually be a quarter of what the base-game only cost upon release. Really, I don't see any reasons to pick anything up upon release other than getting to play the game ASAP so you're in the loop when people discuss the game online, but that alone isn't worth it to me.

Yeah, if you both liked the series from RE3 and down, and from RE4 and up, you're likely going to love RE:Revelations! Although if you're going to play it on a 3DS I suggest you pick up the circle pad pro.
I have played a lot of awesome games this year, but... Dishonored + its DLC. Finished the original 3 times, the DLC storyline 2 times. Put over 50 hours into the game. I just love it.
