That reminds me... in Baldur's Gate 2 you can choose to have sex with your love interest (if you have one), and at least with one of them having it too early apparently makes her eventually disinterested in you. Maybe she felt you were not romantic enough as you jumped to bed with her as soon as you could, even though she made the initiative.

Also, having sex with her (later) can cause pregnancy, after which you have to decide how to approach that new situation. I don't recall if it was at the end of the base game or the expansion pack, but depending of your choices, you'll either become a family, or she becomes a single mother, IIRC.

That added to the game and was relevant to it, but then it didn't have any actual "sex scene", interactive or not. So maybe it wasn't quite what was the discussion here, but the sex part was still a meaningful part of the game (story).

Hmm, now I am pondering, if your BG2 main character is female and has a romantic relationship with some male party member, can _you_ become pregnant too?

Well, there is a japanese game (i think it's for the PS3) that comes with a special controller in which you insert your penis to "control" your character during sex scenes.

I can't really say that was what she intentionally wanted to say, but it is indeed what her post implied (that people with active sexual lives don't need to watch porn). I didn't even read the whole thread, I don't remember what you said in the past and I certainly didn't have any big scheme to prove you wrong. During the short time I participated in the discussion (rather by accident and out of boredom), I just posted what came to my mind when reading your comments, and I'd have posted the same if someone else had written it. I don't have it in for you, actually I often find your posts quite interesting. And I don't even disagree with you on this subject, on the whole; so far I haven't seen any game (actively) approach sex in a way that was not awkward or ridiculous. If someone aims to change that, more power to them, I wouldn't mind, but I'm not really keen on it either.

Nay. They both work just as fine. I've seen some crappy video game shooters and some great video game sex scenes. The witcher is a good example of how to handle sex, casual sex in a video game. But really, what you and I call good sex scenes could be very different and then we can go into our own opinions about that.

I think it's of no real value to say that one bad thing is worse than other bad things. In the end you have to tackle both as best as you can, right?

I'm staying out of the ongoing argument, but this just occurred to me at work during a boring meeting:

I partly feel about "sex in games" the same way like shitting and peeing in games. I guess it can be there if there is a good reason for it, but not just because. So yeah, there might suddenly come a "You need to take a dump. Go to toilet? Y/N" query, and then there would be a QTE minigame where I try to get a turd safely out in one piece, and showing it in very gruesome detail.

Natural as it is, it would still feel odd and out of place, unless it has something to do with the story or gameplay. Not just "well, you met this girl in the game, so of course we are going to show you in an awkward manner when they get intimate.". What's the point, especially if it just seems so fake and doesn't even arouse me?

And yeah, I liked the Baldur's Gate 2 approach to the subject, it made sense there with the story and character interactions, even without showing me the tits and unshaved armpits of Aerie.

Friend, I'm afraid you misunderstood my post. Let me try to further elaborate on the point of my throwaway comment since it's so upsetting to you and derailing the whole thread.

Please understand that being in a stable relationship can lead into a satisfying sexual life in which a person becomes less interested in porn. By saying I wouldn't be interested in buying a porn game because I'm married I was trying to imply that *I* am one of those people. I didn't mean to say that all married or sexually active people don't or shouldn't consume porn.

I hope this clears up my careless comment and you can now move on. If I was being unclear and so caused distress and arguments, I apologize.

I think this pretty much nails the problem. Valve is an american company, is it not?

My personal oppinion is that I have yet to see an erotic game that defends itself as a GAME. That being said if there are customers for a commodity your f***ing duty and obligation as a middleman it to provide the said commodity. I probably wouldn't pay for it myself but I see no reason fot it to be censored or banned.

Part of the problem is that the medium itself is not yet matured. Literature or cinema has no issues with pornography
at all. Mayby it just needs a few more decades to produce some *worthwhile* erotica and change it's own image in the broad society.

The other part of the problem is somewhere along these lines:
What is the reason you play any game? For me it is the possibility to get away from mundane world for a while. In real world I am not likely to become a CEO of a big corporation, general leading armies to their deaths, fighter pilot, WW2 soldier or a fantasy sword wielding sorceress. What fun is there to produce a game about making a piss other than a 30 second novelty? What fun is there to produce weak attempts to simulate sex life? For me none. But if you are a paying customer then be my guest.
