Ivory&Gold: You're aware of America's Army?
You're aware that it has nothing to do with real life soldiery at all? Again, how about you come out on exercise and see what a real infantrymans day is like?

That's right! You can forget everything that comes before a war by pulling a trigger on your controller. You can watch pixels on a screen and say "I've been to WAR".

Wow. You really need some life lessons.

itchy01ca01: Trying to censor sex by saying no one can enjoy it, or hiding it behind some big curtain is useless and has been shown to be so for quite some time.
avatar
Sargon: I wouldn't say it is useless. It has been put to good use for quite some time. Controlling people's sex lives gives governmental and religious authorities control of people. Restricting women's sex lives through the institution of marriage and slut-shaming makes it easier to determine ownership of children and property. Inheritance would be a little bit more difficult without the institution of marriage. The oppression of sexual minorities does also provide a good source for potential internal enemies.

Useless in ain't but people-friendly it ain't either.
You are correct. It's useless in a sense, now. At least in the first world.

"America's Army has "grown in ways its originators couldn't have imagined". Dozens of government training and simulation applications using the America's Army platform have been developed to train and educate U.S. Army soldiers."

"America's Army was conceived by Colonel Casey Wardynski when he was at the U.S. Army's Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis at the United States Military Academy. Wardynski envisioned "using computer game technology to provide the public a virtual Soldier experience that was engaging, informative and entertaining."

I want a game where you can participate in an orgy.

And it's nothing like actually dealing with the emotions and feelings that come from actual combat. Or tell that to all the PTSD patients and soldiers coming back from all those warzones. A game cannot prepare you emotionally for combat. It can help you with tactics and strategies but it cannot prepare you for the actual thing. And that's what the Army is finding out right now.

itchy01ca01: You may have said that with snark, but it is absolutely what needs to happen.
You may be right, but even in my country which is a pretty liberal country, you couldn't say that in public without getting a lot of flak. Even in the Netherlands you can't say that without getting a lot of flak. Why? Because western civilization is still very anti-sexual.
From the same wiki:
" but its critics have alleged that it fails to convey wartime conditions as accurately as it claims.[17] "If you are going to join the Army, you know the risk." says player Bart Koscinski. "In this game you might die eight times in 15 minutes. In real life people know what they are getting themselves into."[36]"

Well if you are willing to wait a decade or two, you might get it. Virtual reality is on the near horizon and various new ways of controlling and sensing virtual worlds like games is definitely coming. Combine that with all the possibilities of persistent multiplayer worlds and someone is going to see the opportunity to make a lot of bucks.

But I'd advise you to participate in a real orgy in real life instead. I don't have any experience with this myself, but although it would be a lot more work, I'm sure it would be a lot more fulfilling as well. Especially with a partner to share it with.

Why are you so stubbornly fixated on 1:1 comparisons?

The American Army itself uses games as training tools. There are studies that claim FPS skills relate to skills with real weapons. A huge percentage of video games incorporate shooting as a core mechanic.

Shooting and video games go well together.

Even these quotes oppose your stand.

- but its critics have alleged that it fails to convey wartime conditions as accurately as it claims. (Wiki quote)
- You're aware that it has nothing to do with real life soldiery at all? (You)

See it?

Nobody but you is talking about a 100% match. Or even a 10% match. But there is a match. It makes sense for video games to incorporate shooting, is my claim. Everything else is just yet another example of faulty reading comprehension on your part.

Ivory, one could probably learn a thing or too by playing hentai games too :P

Ivory&Gold: Shooting and video games go well together.
Well that's an extremely silly statement. You don't need a study to tell you that a better hand-eye coordination will help you with tasks which involve ... Eh ... Coordinating your hands and your eyes, not to mention that the stub you have linked seems extremely misleading - that it starts with the words 'murder simulators' hardly helps any in me taking it seriously and not question its trustworthiness.

At any rate, tactical thinking and videogames go together better than shooting and videogames. There are actually many things that goes together better in videogames than shooting, as the feeling of actually discharging a firearm is completely different from what videogames make it out to be. Feeling you get when planning ahead and outsmarting an opponent is exactly the same thing.

Fenixp: Well that's an extremely silly statement.
It really, really isn't. A sizeable percentage of video games incorporate shooting mechanics. Most of the most popular ones do. And that's it, really.

Exactly. Video games lend themselves to simulating tasks that require hand-eye coordination.

I agree in so far as tactical thinking and video gaming go together very well, too.

I was joking for the most part, though admittedly hard to tell with text. :P

Ivory&Gold: It really, really isn't.
It's a silly statement because it's the only one you've made. There's loads of stuff that works extremely well with videogames.

avatar
Ivory&Gold: A sizeable percentage of video games incorporate shooting mechanics. Most of the most popular ones do. And that's it, really.
Actually, most of the most popular videogames incorporate clicking on farm goods and switching jewels - which is also the kind of stuff that the most videogames in existence incorporate.

avatar
Ivory&Gold: I agree in so far as tactical thinking and video gaming go together very well, too.
We could compile a bloody list, which would then render your initial statement completely meaningless. I still am puzzled as to what exactly did you want to say by it. I do agree that shooting is videogamey, but so are a lot of other things and it doesn't really lead to prove anything whatsoever.

the act of pushing a button that any attempt to simulate one by the other
Actually.. have you ever stimulated a clit before? Tell me that's not messing about with a bunch of buttons.

That's a bit of humor there.
