The landscape doesn't "respawn". It is comprised of so-called "chunks", which are lumps of 16x16x128 blocks (the world is 128 blocks tall). As you explore to the edge of your world, more chunks are generated as necessary. To the best of my knowledge, once a chunk is generated, it stays as it is, other than the changes you make to it.

Trees don't respawn automatically, to the best of my knowledge, but you can replant them. If you harvest all the wood blocks from a tree, the leaves will start to die on their own. As they do this, they drop saplings, which you can use to plant new trees. The leaves will occasionally drop saplings if you simply destroy them, but not as often as when they're allowed to deteriorate on their own. However, even if you destroy them yourself, you should get more than one sapling per tree, so replanting shouldn't be a problem either way.

Well yeah true, it hasn't hit yet. But it's due any moment now.

I know, so excited - I'm actually taking a break from MC until this comes out. I tend to prefer exploring and building roads and surviving to making elaborate sculptures, so it'll really let me break loose from my inhibitions about wandering too far from 'home'.

Well if nothing else it will stop me from having to constantly start new worlds until I get a more interesting starting location. That's a pretty major plus for me.

My introduction was seeing countless topics related to it on some popular imageboard. Didn't know what it was, "meh.", and carried on. One day the TF2 blog posted an entry pertaining to Minecraft, decided "why not?" and checked out the site. Played creative mode, loved it, bought it, played creative mode with a friend, he bought the full game thinking he'd be able to play Alpha with me (Which wasn't the case until relatively recently, and Beta is devoid of many of the problems Alpha had with multiplayer).

I'm a huge fan of Sandbox games, so it's been tons of fun. I'm not very skilled and don't have any creations I'm particularly fond of. I just like making my own world, gathering resources, and fucking around with things, I'm not out to impress anybody. :P


Not a fan of watching videos. Apparently, my friend had watched livestreams of Minecraft, and that made it even harder to convince him to play with me since as far as he could tell "The game looks boring as fuck. I don't get it". So maybe watching videos isn't the best way to introduce somebody to the game. >_>

Probably the usual "south-west" (or is it "south-east" ?) bug, even if lava, fire, water is completely sealed, it's still possible to get burned/drowned if you touch the south-east corner of said block. Also sometime you have the little "fire-spark" thingy who are able to jump through the south-west corner and ignite your stuff.

I had the issue very often in a "under-lava" room at the bottom of my main base... that's why I decided to uses stone-slab as floor for this room instead of wood :).

Just spent an hour making my lair... heard some water in the background. So went exploring. Found an underground cavern of waterfalls. Turned around to mine some rock and apparently there was lava there was well, which flooded out half of my lair. Most fun I have in gaming in ages.

Here is my tower on a SMP server I host with friends. We don't give us resources with commands, it's real SMP ! It was about 3 evenings of work.

I know! Isn't it awesome? Exploring's definitely the most fun part. You might want to consider carrying some ladders and torches in case you fall into a bottomless pit. Has anyone pointed you to the Minecraft Wiki yet?

I remember the first time I set fire to a forest near my house, and ended up burning half my house down. Good times, good f**king times xD
