I am very proud to say that last year, with my 4th attempt from scratch, I finally manged to beat the game on hard. The difficulty is completely disproportionate to normal where I managed to run down the timer while the AI was still busy clearing the Orc base. What I did different this time round : lots and lots of archers...

Arguably a bigger 'nope' in that game, even on normal : reaching that damned horn of Cenarius before the time runs out...

I still like this game, especially new features like those you've mentioned but this "dynamic difficulty" is a terrible thing IMHO. It kills the joy of being pro because you actually can't be a pro here ;) And if you try you'll get massacred within one hour

You must have a really messed up face, considering.

A lot of games make the last level or two so super frustrating I quit outright and watch the ending on youtube. It's not even about difficulty it's about endless mobs or lack of checkpoints or whatever else, just general frustration at a time when I'm ready to finish the damn thing. So there are a ton of "nope" moments there, mostly in shooters.

The mutants appearing in Far Cry was a "nope" moment for sure. Not just them as villains but the entire level design and style of play changed. Nope nope nope. Similarly when Far Cry 2 revealed I was only half done and there was an entire second map I was like "nope" just because I didn't want to play it for so much longer.

Every RTS eventually gets to the point where I'm more stressed out than having fun and I stop playing.

Every single timed chase mission in the GTA series. Absolutely maddening.

In Fallout 1: the very first time I "met" a Deathclaw. I was so nervous, I activated combat very quickly but I clicked on the
wounded supermutant instead of the Deathclaw.

Not because of the difficulty :)
Its because of what happens in that mission 8{
Oh boy yeah, deathclaws were terrifying in Fallout 1. Remember that I got a combat shotgun especially for that first encounter, and I still only barely killed it.

There is a part in Grand Theft Auto IV where you can actually wander around the entire city and shoot Pidgeons as some kind of optional bonus/trophy/achievement. I think I shot like 2 of them and said "helllllll no". I'd much rather move on to another game than torturing myself doing that. Edit: Forgot to mention, there are 200 Pidgeons and no way of keeping track of them.

Another example; After finishing Alice: Madness Returns, you have the option to go back and get the collectibles that you missed... sounds great, right? Nope, all of the items come back into place, and you have no indication really on which items you're missing, so you basically need to grab a guide book and walk through and get everything as if you missed ALL of them the first time.
