Spud's Quest was kinda nice, too bad it had a little bug, the creator got into an argument with someone, and decided to f..k everyone. Kinda sad, i miss Dizzy like games, without the NES/SNES undertones, i never really dug those.
I don't remember when I last played a platformer, certainly not this millenium.
Maybe not what you're looking for, but what about the old ID shareware games like Duke Nukem and Commander Keen? Commander Keen is more about exploration and Duke Nukem more about guns.

I recently played through a level of Commander Keen Episode 4 and it's still good.

Edit: of course Duke Nukem is not by ID, but my point still stands.
