Alone in the Dark

I'm a little shocked no one mentioned it yet.

Goatbrush: Amnesia is a great choice but probably too obvious, same for System Shock 2. I would say the Thief series. Perhaps not considered a traditional horror game, but I found some of the levels incredibly creepy.

Edit: I may have misunderstood the original post when I skimmed over it. If you're just looking for pure halloween theme then yeah I second (third) Costume Quest.

CharlesGrey: Yeah, the others you mentioned are good, but I'm not sure if I'd consider them good "Halloween games".

I wonder if there are any others on GOG. Hmm...

Shadowman, maybe? Or how about Guacamelee? ( OK, the latter has more of a "Dia de los muertos" flavour, but close enough. )

Costume Quest is probably the best choice, though. Unless GOG release something new around Halloween.
Something new? Like, I dunno, Grim Fandango? I don't think there's much demand for those types of games around here though right? ;)

2kB_minimalist: As for scary ones, I'm just not too much into psychological combat-less "horror." I've only played a couple horror games in my life really, Resident Evil REmake and Eternal Darkness are a couple I've liked. I picked up Amnesia in some Humble Bundle before, I just couldn't get into it. I played for about an hour or so, and just really am not into the whole trying to psych you out type things in horror movies or games where you're defenseless.
Nintendo Gamecube FTW. :D

For being a so called kiddie console, that thing had some good Horror games. Eternal Darkness is another game that could do with a make-over and/or sequel, actually. And the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 is still one of my all-time favourite Action/Horror titles.

Yeah it would be nice if GOG could pick up the old Resident Evil games. Or some Konami Castlevania Collection.

These Japanese companies though seem to be notoriously difficult to get anything done with though.
Halloween*ish* could also be some pinball.
The Pinball Gold Pack has both Pinball Dreams and Fantasies in it.
There you'll get the Nightmare table and Stones'n'Bones table.
Doesn't get more halloween*ish* than that, and you don't get to get scared ;)

l should try the old ones some time. I only played New Nightmare(?), which was kinda... meh. And the last one, which I found surprisingly good, considering that everyone and their grandmother was bashing the game. :P

Maybe they could even fix up the PC version of RE4. I have it on disc, but it's such an awful port compared to the original, it's not even funny. :/

And I never played Grim Fandango, although I remember seeing it in some game magazines, back in the day.

I've never played it either, but it's just one of those most requested types of games and companies that is caught up in rights hell.

How about Maniac Mansion? :P I've always liked that on the NES. Even though it was censored compared to the PC version, I've always liked the NES sprites and music, it fits great for the game.
For some light hearted Halloween themed fun Costume Quest is perfect. I just reinstalled it myself for another go this season.

I would agree with others that Clive Barker's Undying is an excellent game with a great creepy vibe and some scares but the action carries it well along with the story. It doesn't depend on being scary per se to be good. The sum of its parts equals greatness.
The Cat Lady, naturally :)
How has nobody mentioned The 7th Guest or Phantasmagoria yet?
How about games we would LIKE to see?

Noctune would be perfect! Get on it GOG team!

And yeah I already requested it.
Alone In The Dark series, 7th Guest and 11th Hour, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, and one honorable mention goes to Sim City when your attacked by a Godzilla like monster.
Mandatory Costume Quest!

Edit : ah, lights out, right.. Alone in the Dark - the New Nightmare is quite fine.

Maniac Mansion was one of the first games I ever bought, got it for my Apple//c. I spent countless nights on that one and actually had a huge poster of it in my room.

This year it's a playthrough of Blood.

It combines the twisted atmosphere and a few scares with cheesiness and humor. It's what Halloween is about, silly fun!
