Actually I adore "Prince of Darkness". I found it excellent, well paced, well filmed, and terrifying. I consider it as belonging to the 'A' category of Carpenter movies : the real good films, such as "The Thing", "Starman", etc...

I'm more embarrassed about the 'B' categories, where it's just Carpenter getting out of control with his toys ("Vampires", "Ghosts of Mars", "Escape from L.A.", etc). These are godawful films that I'm fond of just because it's Carpenter, and he seems to have so much fun making them. So I kinda expected the criticism to come on that front...

Now that's a tough one. It had so much I loved but so much I wasn't really big on. I loved the whole camaraderie thing and of course any movie with David Cronenberg actually in it is a great movie but they still had a lot of missfires in there.

I have to go with any of the following:

Berserk: Golden Age Arc trilogy (yeah I know it misses huge chunks from the books, but it's still entertaining to me)

Kung fu Hustle is hilarious, no reason to call that one guilty pleasure :)

I generally consider PoD to be one of the worst movies I actually paid money for... I didn't actually fall asleep but apparently I missed the terrifying part because I was so mind numbingly bored.
I thought of attacking the Escape movies, but found them too easy of a target.

Just for the record, where would you place Christine on your list?

I don´t know about the writings but after watching the movie, we were all speechless, watching the screen like souless remnants of our past selves, for about five minutes, we floated between time and space, when we started wondering collectively where that time lapsus that we endured in front of the tv had gone.....and we shouted why?! WHY?! in our heads, trying to find the logical answer, we felt empty................and then, we rose, we took the movie out of the videoplayer and on that same spot, we made the oath..............almost a blood pact................that we would never......EVER again in our lives, the underworld or the afterlife would we ever again rent that thing again.

Hackers I enjoyed as well, and I can see why it is on here, it draws a lot of hate from the nerd community.

But how does the Fifth Element, that was a great movie and I loved every minute of it and I have no guilt ever watching that movie. Milla "Mul-Tee-Pass" Jovovich, Bruce Willis, and Chris Tucker. Next you'll be saying I should feel ashamed for liking 12 Monkeys another great Bruce Willis movie.

Well, I was on the edge of the seat each time I've rewatched Prince of Darkness, and from minute one to the end - something with its tone, pace, atmosphere, concepts, just ticks with me, I guess.

Honestly, I don't know. I haven't seen it for too long (and I think I saw it only once), and it's one of the few Carpenter that I didn't care to buy on DVD, not sure why.

I think I'd put it in the "quality films" category, i mean, as a "real movie". But for some reason, I don't feel very interested in rewatching it. Maybe I simply can't relate enough to the story (cars bore me terribly).

I feel a bit the same about the novel. It's a decent King, but simply a story I tend to forget about.

So true, for anyone who likes Kung Fu Hustle, I recommend checking out Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. It is made by Chow and it is rather good, similar humour, but a few more genuinely sad moments that are well done. Then again I'm a sucker for any JttW adaptation really.

Well, how do feel about it now? :P FYI I do own it on DVD but only because it was a Conan box set deal. *cough*

I enjoyed hackers, just came out at a bad time. Technology advances too fast to put a movie out with older technology and trying to make it look "awesome"
