bansama: That's actually good news, as you will most certainly get the account back. The bad news is, that this probably happened due to some idiot at the CC company/or Valve hitting the wrong key on a computer somewhere which caused the dispute.

I hope so. I just got the reply from my credit card provider and they show the transaction was approved and not disputed <natch> so I assume this is a cock up on Steam's end of things. Waiting for their reply now.
In the case of a disputed payment then Steam should contact a person immediatley and not leave this hanging for over 3 Months. I will be telling them how I feel quite strongly once this is all resolved but until it is I will continue to be an exemplar of politeness. You catch more bees with honey than shit after all.
After this is resolved I will probably be writing a long letter to Steam about the whole incident.

What's to say they'd even give half a shit about what you write? It's obvious they didn't seem to care too much about your account's disabling enough to do something about on Monday.
My guess is you'd get a lovely canned response and it goes down the virtual shredder.
Well Huzzah and Hurrah! 24 days later, basically a Month and my service has been restored.
No apology was given just that they thanked me for my patience while the issue was resolved with the banks involved. In fact I should be indebted to them as the funds have not actually cleared but they have been assured the funds are on their way back to them.
I think I will need to have a sleep before I consider my response.

Well, it's good that it got resolved eventually, I guess.
If I were them, I would have at least hooked you up with a free game or something though.

Wow, good for you! It seems to me like in Valve, they wanted to clear this up in a week, but obviously Valve Time dictates one week as a month.
Out of curiousity, what's your Steam ID thing?

X_iled. Pretty much every name I use online is some variation on Exiled.
I guess the only thing that annoys me about this whole experience is the shifting of blame. Steam, their bank and my card provider all blaming each other while me the poor schmuck was just stuck in the middle not knowing what was going on. I would have expected some feedback from Steam about this issue on how they can prevent this from happening in the future to anyone else yet no, they don't seem particularly bothered about it.
The one thing I take from this experience is that Steam have extremely poor customer service and don't seem inclined to improve it anytime soon. I guess all we can hope is that companies like Gamersgate and GOG can continue to grow their userbase so Steam has to face some competition.

Hey I get it! Your name is exiled backwards, it just hit me. I always thought it was just some cool way of spelling deluxe.
You should definitely follow it up, and send them a firm, but polite email pointing out that (a) they should contact users with a reason when accounts are blocked, (b) 24 days is too long to be blocked for a minor thing like that, and (c) they should be more polite and informative.
I rather like steam, but that doesn't mean they should be able to get away with this kind of thing... problems are of course inevitable, but we need to push them to improve the way they handle them when they happen.
24 days delay capped by no explanation is just shitty service
Oh I'm happy I'm free of this Steam/Valve/GFWl malarkey.

Summit: Oh I'm happy I'm free of this Steam/Valve/GFWl malarkey.

I'm slowly growing to like Steam. I think that if you toe the line (of which there are many), you should be fine and you need to trust a corporation with your games that require Internet verification-- oh, wait. We can't.
But still, I think that I should buy from Steam more and more, even if it is 1000x more annoying and hard to do for me since I'm out of space in the box that holds all my games.
Unless of course, the box is extremely badass that I must get a boxed copy of.
I will never, ever buy a game that requires internet connection to play. Especially from steam with this DRM nonsense. All this DRM, SecuROM, disc check bullshit actually only hurt people who own a legal copy. Assholes who download pirated games from the internet don't have to worry about having a disc in a drive and all this checks which usually end up in system crashing.
The same thing with DVD's. If you buy a legal copy you'll have to go through few commercials and a movie which tells you that downloading movies is as bad as stealing a purse or a car (the annoying one with loud music). I know, that's why I bought the fucking disc. If I downloaded it instead I wouldn't have had to watch this shit because every DVD-copying tool has an opition to remove it.

Maybe so, but at least we've made fun of those ads.
Hehe, this is really good.
that rules.
i remember i had a series of 24 on dvd, and i'd often be watching it late at night. But I always forgot that before EVERY episode there was an incredibly loud anti-piracy ad... and it always scared the crap out of me. Nothing has ever made me want to torrent a tv series as much!
