Wow, the descriptions of the games here are hilarious, to me, and I mean that in a bad way.

And the recommendations: instead of Saints Row The Third, try Minecraft! WTF?

Just more fear-mongering: blood! death! killing aliens!

I wont ever bother reading this bullshit. I saw some fucked up shit during my childhood, played some fucked up games yet i make way to even to the ants and never felt the slightest urge to hurt anybody because of whatever from the internet. It's just a myth to me, that's all.
So many 'alternatives' make no sense for the games their listed with: Ni No Kuni instead of Blops 2? What the hell? I don't see a large cross-over between JRPG and hardcore military shooter fans.

Also, how is Arkham City a viable alternative to Saints Row 3? Sure, you aren't shooting things to gibs, but good lord is Arkham City visceral with its fighting system. If you want to talk about violent, get a good combo with some finishing moves in Batman.

Yahoo!: proving they don't know a damn thing about video games every day.
These alternatives don't even line up most of the time. Ni No Kuni as an alternative to COD?

kodeen: These alternatives don't even line up most of the time. Ni No Kuni as an alternative to COD?
Ni No Kuni has some real smut in it O_O. Here's an example I stumbled upon today:

"...What's that? Why does mum have an emergency exit in her back passage? Well now, that, my lad is for grown-ups to know, and littlies to find out!"

Filth utter filth! Ban games with filth!
The article fails on a number of levels (suggesting Minecraft as an alternative to Saints Row 3rd being the most obvious), and frankly, if your kid is intrigued about some overly violent game because all his friends rave about it, then telling it "No you can't play it, it's too violent, here - play Minecraft instead" is just not going to work. Watching gameplay videos together with your kid, talking about thing, and questioning _what exactly_ is so great about violent gameplay might work, but that would require a) actually spending time with your kid, and b) acknowledging that the problem of violent games is not one of customer age, but of game design.

But all flaws aside, it _is_ mind-boggling how ultra-violent action has become one of the most accepted mainstream forms of entertainment, and how many gamers take that as a given and as perfectly natural.
All i see is a list of games for adults that kids shouldnt be playing anyway and a bunch of fucktards offering alternatives to games kids shouldnt be playing anyways. How much have these people been paid to advertise the "altertnatives"?
It's aimed at informing parents about what their kids might be playing. I don't see that as being a bad thing. The information is presented in a pretty factual manner and its goal is to help. Not say GAMEZ TEH EVIL! The only ill-informed aspect seems to be the recommended alternatives. One look at indie games would turn up a lot of better options.
