I don't really have memorable holidays stories. Usually they are all the same: Eat, laugh, fight, toast, laugh again, drink, fight a little more while eating whatever is left on the table, forget the reason of the discussion, sleep.

Now that I think about it, they are memorable for that....

I can't really think of memorable holiday stories off the top of my head this time of year tends to be a bit boring.

I do tend to travel on Christmas eve on trains a lot, I tend to catch the last trains up to see my gf and the the atmosphere is laid back and you meet interesting people. You also get free stuff as the train network closes for christmas for a couple of days so all the food is often given away at the end of the journey, and I get off at the last stop. I turned up with about 9 sandwiches last time, and had eaten 3 on the train.

No special memories when I grew up. But still Christmas is the happiest moment in a year for me. I remember when I was a kid Santa gave me military toys, miniature fighter aircrafts, lots of them. I thought it was my parents who actually bought me. I was so happy.

+1 for your wonderful generosity. I didn't see this thread before. After a year or two of never being chosen for a giveaway, I just was for some RPGs on Steam! Since only one family member can run that account at a time, I would enjoy winning one of these too, but I am happy now to have some classic RPGs to play that I haven't had access to before.

One of my favorite Christmas memories as a kid had to do with this long-lived fruitcake. One Great-Aunt sent it to my Stepfather's family by mail, and while that family does eat fruitcake (I actually like it) - this one seemed a bit old. As a gag, the recipient rewrapped and regifted the Tin of Everlasting Dessicated Fruitcake-ness to another unsuspecting relation. The next year, that person regifted the old cake & tin to another relative who was present at the gathering, and from this time on, it became a game of stiffing someone else with it. (Only rule was that they had to be old enough to understand it wasn't safe to eat and they had to be at the family gathering in person.) One record year it was regiven nearly a half dozen times in a single Christmas! The (alleged) fruitcake lasted for YEARS this way. I forget how many 6 years? 8 years? 11? At last an uncle ate (Buh Buh Bah) The Fruitcake of DOOM... Doom ...doom ...whilst very drunk. Amazingly, he suffered no ill effects.

I can never look at a fruitcake (especially if its in a round tin) without thinking of it. lol

Reminds me of Chekhov's gun, a principle in drama: "If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. "

This cake was destined to find a victim sooner or later, haha. Glad your uncle lived!
