Hell on Earth. Ultra Violence.

I still got it.

Damn. Doom were simply above awesome games. Really good game design.

Surprisingly enough, I played it with a gamepad, and it felt easier than before. And, after fifteen something years, I still found a lot of secrets.
Congrtaz. I wanted to play but sadly GamersGate has no keys for my Bethesda Pack so I will have to wait.
Ha ha! Congratuations! (^_^)
I haven't played that game in YEARS! Maybe I should fix that soon...
Gratz!

I'd love to join you, but could not force my version to work. Stupid iD loosers.

And it's not surprising at all, back in the day, i played all Build games with gamepad, because it was better.

But good job, man!
Congratulaions! You won a lolipop... :P
From what I've read for some reason they went and made the BFG versions of the old doom games easier than they were originally.

I played Brutal DOOM just the other day, I was amazed at how easy it can be when you setup a modern PC FPS control scheme. Brutal DOOM is epic fun by the way, it's like doom and mortal kombat had dirty rough sex in a shady motel room and brutal DOOM was what was left behind for the poor underpaid maid to clean up.
Gratz!! :)
You should try a port like zDoom and a mod called "Brütal Doom". It honors its name, and adds a lot of new features. And you can still play the original version because it doesn't change it.
But does Orcishgamer have that achievement?

Maybe on XBox, but he hasn't got the game on Steam.

Nevertheless, I should rub it in his face ;-)

I can't say that I noticed. It's been years since I played the dos versions, but the monsters definitely had the same health and monster/item placement seemed to be the same. A few levels I still know by heart and those were exactly the same.

What makes a massive difference is how bad the old control scheme actually was. circle-strafing is a lot easier with a pad than with alt-strafe and arrow key movement.

Personally I was surprised how easy the last level (Icon of Sin) was. And I still had the timing of the the rockets in my muscle memory.

Also, in my years since I learned the discretion if the better part of virtue. Ten years ago, I would still have fought it out with every enemy. Now, I just thought "Fuck that Cyberdeamon, there is the exit"

question:

I bought Doom 3 BFG at launch so the mods cannot work on it, but later I heard its moddable again, so I can install mods now?

Haven't played Doom 3 BFG so far. Bought the pack for Doom 1 + 2. But the BFG source code has been released, so modding should be possible.

"Alt-strafe"? I didn't realize anyone used that after Wolf3D (and games derived with that engine).

Why didn't you simply assign two separate keys for strafe, or doesn't the BFG edition of Doom 1-2 allow that? That's how I originally played Doom 1-2 with the keyboard in the early 90s, worked fine. I think I used

C = strafe left
V = strafe right
X = forwards
Z = backwards

and then either the mouse or arrow keys for turning left/right. I guess many used WASD instead of ZXCV already at that point with the early Doom games.

I completed Doom 1-2 with that setup quite easily on Ultra Violence (= second highest difficulty setting) already back then. I never tried to play it with Nightmare difficulty (=the highest difficulty) because the idea of constantly respawning monsters just didn't appeal to me.

I tend to get private PMs to note the good ones I do not have. In this case I got the PM with the URL to this thread;)

Nope, don't have it. I've been wasting time in The Secret World instead of my solo Legendary Halo 4 run through, the last two levels are a bit of a slog... Incoming brag in two weeks or so;)
