michaelleung: Now we shall wait for the review for Starcraft: Ghost.

Nuke Nukem "Forever" and Starcraft "Ghost" are really awesome games!

chautemoc: Not seeing any evidence to back up any of these claims.
You're all acting like they were fucking everyone around for 12 years on purpose. What reason would they have to do this? It's (clearly) detrimental to them as a business, in terms of profit and reputation.

Blizzard and Valve are horrible people when it comes to punctuality. It even created a joke: valve time. We have a thread about it somewhere I believe.
Those two horrible companies in past 12 years developed:
Blizzard:
Starcraft and expansion
Diablo II and expansion
Warcraft III and expansion
World of Warcraft and expansions
Valve:
Half Life
Counter Strike and its various incarnations
Day of Defeat and its source incarnation
HL2 and episodes
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Left4dead
3d realms had money, had fame and had devoted fans who would buy anything from them.
These three things should guarantee a game to be released in three/four years.
The game wasn't.
This is ENTIRELY 3D realms fault. No matter what obstacles there were, what problems the company encountered; there is no justification for a game to be produced for 12 years.
Of course the game might have been in production for two years ten years ago and then they just started to work on in a year or so ago.
That would make 3D realms a bunch of lairs.
You decided which is worse.
:) i feel much better now.
As per usual Yahtzee nails it. DNF RIP. End of story. I just can't believe it took them so long to close the shop... I pity the developers who got sacked a bit but hell, no pain, no gain.

Again, I'm just supposed to take it on faith that they're just a poor team of developers that were besieged by unfortunate circumstance after unfortunate circumstance and that the world and Fate conspired against them in such a way that they couldn't complete their project no matter how hard they tried and how much earnest effort they put in?
Like I was saying earlier, I can extend some benefit of the doubt to a dev team, but how much is too much? How much before it's okay for people to say "All right, that's it... they're just YANKING us now?"

So: combine the two and it can't get much more awesome?
A board I'm on had a DNF fanboy that just would not believe that DNF had the possibility that it wouldn't come out, this was way in advance of the shutdown. Even when it was pointed out that the first screenshots were of the Quake 2 engine, then the Unreal engine, and that they basically took so long that they had to keep switching game engines, more or less necessitating a restart, he still believed that the game was coming out. The standard excuse was that 'the tech was locked down'.
Look at the dev cycles of games like Team Fortress 2 and Freelancer and they still took far less time. Hell the entire Battlefield series has been released and in multi platforms in far less time than this disgrace. The management and organisation of this company was downright ridiculous.

michaelleung: Now we shall wait for the review for Starcraft: Ghost.

The Question: Starcraft: Ghost
The Problem: It's been officially cancelled, unlike DNF (upto a few months ago, anyway)
The Solution: You understand the difference between "coming" and cancelled.
Have any of you on the other hand, played his awesome adventure games?

It's not cancelled, it's just indefinitely postponed. I bet they don't even remember it's there.
The primary difference being that SCG wasn't being touted every 6 months as coming soon to revolutionise gaming and having the occasional concept screenshot released but with no real indication of content

Even more so, it's not only that blizzard is not saying it's coming soon, but actually said it's not coming soon.
The Duke Nukem Forever list has become a joke, but really when you look at it seriously it puts it into perspective. When things like WWII and the Manhattan Project took less time and still there was no finished product from 3DR and despite what some fanboys think, no real indication of any coming soon, it was ridiculous. There were rumours that a year and a half ago they had started from scratch, yet again due to engine updates and the like.
