cw8: Single main base but you can build satellite bases over the globe IIRC.
Consoles used to have alot hardcore turn-based strategy games, Langrisser anyone? And stuff like the old Final Fantasies and the ports of other PC games.
The TBS genre is by no means dead (on the console). It's just abysmally overlooked on the PC >.<
Btw atm there's no way to prime a grenade first. What a shame.
I'm new to these types of games (X-Com: UFO Defense sits unplayed in my Steam games list), but I just played through the kickstarter demo of this and quite liked it, even though I only half knew what I was doing. I could see myself putting plenty of hours into it. Looks to be worth backing.

Now I think I need to play some X-Com.

Warning X-Com/UFO are MUCH harder due to filthy cheating AI's that overwatch your ship with plasma missiles -.-

Also, be warned that in X-COM, the interface is really ancient. I've no problems with it, but if you're new, you should know that your TUs aren't displayed. One directly adjacent square costs 4 TUs per normal terrain, and adjacent along the diagonal of the square is 6 TUs. Various tiles also have different effects on your TU cost.

It's also bloody brutal. You can have enemies waiting just outside your dropship on the very first turn. I remember on my first terror mission (i.e., aliens attack the city in large forces), I had cyberdiscs, sectoids (a few with mind control) and chryssalids camping near the foot of the loading platform.
DVD box edition, art book, and some new reward tiers!
Bumping this because there are less than 3 days left in the Xenonauts campaign. They are at $125,000 right now, far beyond the original target of $50,000. The next (and likely final) stretch goals are new tile sets for Soviet Town and Military Base terror sites. Don't miss your chance to pledge, X-COM fans!
4 hours left, just bumping this in case anyone else wants to pledge.
We're very close to getting both the Soviet Town tileset and the tileset-specific AI soldiers. Only $1,200 more until we hit the $150,000 stretch goal and 300% funding.

The Xenonauts Kickstarter campaign has just ended with $154,715 pledged by 4,668 backers (the original goal was $50,000).
Anyone tried the latest alpha? Thoughts?

I'm still struggling with Desura. It's incredibly frustrating. I've been trying to get it to successfully download and install since yesterday. Steam is a godsend compared to Desura (and Capsule, which is equally awful).

I haven't, for two reasons:
- I don't want to install Desura just to play one game (plus it's only alpha)
- The least I know about the game before getting my hands on the completed game, the better. I like to have the full experience when I finally get the game.
The good news: They want it on gog! Yeay!
The bad news: gog said no :(

Don't you mean, "The old news"? And weirdly as it sounds, I personally think that $25 is too much for it, and $20 may also be a bit too much as well. Personal opinion though, I do hope the game will turn out to be as good as we hope it will.
