Arteveld: Lesson learned: DO NOT send the bloody Chinook in the same squadron as the Interceptors, it'll only slow them down. I feel like an idiot now. ;)

imperialus: But make sure you send interceptors along for the ride when you visit crash sites. If the Aliens are feeling irritable they will intercept your Chinook and shoot it down.
My brother learnt that the hard way.
Surprise, surprise not a lot of buzz about this game at my place.

Right, lowyat (the largest forum here), facebook, twitter.. or any Malaysia gaming forum, not much hype. But i guess people are waiting for Steam release.
Yeah weird. I thought there are a lot of old school gamers at lowyat.
Compare this to the official X-Com remake (2K/Firaxis), which one your money on?

The more I hear about Firaxis X-Com remake, the more disappointed I get: 4 ppl squad, 6 ppl max. Haven't heard anything about tanks or vehicles either.

I just read about the info from Desura comment section:
(3D, 4-6 soldier limit, single base, more rpg features like skills/classes and visual soldier customization, D&D-like movement/action system, etc.) It's available for console too, of course they're gonna streamlined it little bit. Which is weird because the original also available for PS1. I remember there were plenty of strategy and turn based games on PS1 15 years ago.

Xenonauts. The Firaxis one looks too streamlined. Not that it will definitely turn out to be shit, but I have my doubts that it will be a worthy successor (I define 'worthy successor' as adding on to the original), given how much of the original they've changed. It feels more Michael Bay-ish. Xenonauts, closer to X-COM, relies more on sneaking around and planning ahead.

This post on the Codex better explains what's been changed:

Apparently yeah it was released on the PS1 in 1997. And you're right, consoles back then did have a lot of tactical games. Which is funny because the excuse developers use for streamlining games today is to make it easier for audiences of multiple platforms. Although, according to the IGN reviewer, he recommended using a mouse to play X-COM on the PSX.

Single main base but you can build satellite bases over the globe IIRC.
Consoles used to have alot hardcore turn-based strategy games, Langrisser anyone? And stuff like the old Final Fantasies and the ports of other PC games.

Will do, thanks!:D
Jeeeeezus. I just got an entire squad of newbie Privates (Rookie-equivalent in X-COM) killed, because I forgot to bring bloody grenades.

Hell with extra ammo, I'm stocking up on grenades next time.

We did suggest the suicide rookie as a valid tactic, so how can you not supply them with a shitload of grenades? Especially since they seem to be unlimited (correct me if I'm wrong).

Simple. I forgot.

Oh well, at least they were rookies.
