For those of us disappointed that there's not likely to be a turn based strategy alien hunting game from a mainstream publisher anytime soon, look indiewards:

While admittedly it is skimpy on the media side, the premise sounds good. Looking forward to this :)
I'll admit it sounds interesting. Certainly more than the FPS "remake" anyway.
I was a little confused by the fact that the journalist said it was in the early stages of development, yet the developer hinted that it would come out this year.
Surely it takes more than a year to make a game like this?
I will believe it when I see it. As the journo said there have been a great many attempts to update UFO/X-COM including the Aftershock and Afterlight games available here and all are just pale imitations of the original.

That's true, up to a point, but I actually found the UFO games fun to play. You just need to appreciate them for what they do well (tactical combat, mostly) rather than dismiss them for what they do badly or not at all (base building).
Besides, even if this game is a pale imitation of the original, at least it will *try* to live up to X-COM, something 2k isn't even trying to do...
Interesting.
Will look out for it (errr, in 2011-12 when it gets released...).

Thats a hopeful estimate. BTW how are Nightbird games getting on with UFO: Cydonia's Fall? A few incomplete 3D renders and an admittedly good version of the X-COM theme you say? Still?

Fun to play yes but nothing will ever erase that memory of hopeless disappointment I felt when I tried Aftershock for the first time. It seems every one of those games gets one part of XCOM right but never the whole package.

Don't know about other projects status.
But agreeing with mystral, the article says it is in early stages... and their site says a Christmas 2010 release (which I highly doubt of).
Xenonauts indeed reads like something interesting, but looks like they had just a sketch of it, and jumped on the hate bandwagon of the XCOM FPS.
I'm getting a massive raging boner from this.
There's a second thread about this; I'd all but forgotten this thread actually exists.

Anyway RPS has a very short feature on the game, check it out:

I've just pre-orderer it. Looks great. Hopefully it'll play great as well. :)

Seriously thinking about preordering this despite the pricepoint which seems like it's going to be too high for people not suffering from nostalgia like this poor sap :)

They're looking at the price of at least an A rank game hell I have AA games that cost less than this ones preorder price -.-

True, that's true. If it were the boxed version with a bunch of goodies, I might be more willing to fork out 30, maybe even 35. As it is, for a digitally distributed game, even $30 is a bit overboard. Maybe I'm just spoilt, but I paid $27 for Red Orchestra 2 and $26 for Arkham, City (had $7.62 credit in my GMG account, so the gross was actually $33.96).
