BWAHAHAHAHA...no. It's a matter of taste, for many people there'd no problems with the UI etc Even if he was right "even a stopped clock is right twice a day" comes to mind
Was going to download the demo, and then I remembered that it needs Vista/Win 7 to run.

I might just risk downloading the demo after work (at least my isp is supposedly unmetered with steam)

Cool. I'll download it and see if it works.

Arteveld: Thanks for the info! I'm way below the minimum specs, but it's worth checking out anyway. Torchlight 2 works flawlessly, maxed out on my desktop resolution, and i'm below it's minimum req's too.
That's what I said about Skyrim...but what'd'ya know? I can play it! On minimum!
Or with the "Better Performance" and "ENBSeries ANTIFREEZE" mods, I can crank it up a little to be almost Medium :D

I'ma try this demo....just for shits'n'giggles.

retro_gamer: Demo is over 5GB large!!
have you seen the specs? full thing is 20GB!!! TWENTY!? WTF!!

Not suprising, most UE3 based games are on the large size (12gb+)
20 GB!!!! LOL that's just crazy, why is this so large??

Well, anyway, I downloaded the demo and tried it out. Keep in mind that I'm a hardcore original X-COM fan and a purist so that makes me very hard to satisfy. Because of that I approched the demo with a lot of distance and I was almost certain that they would f*** up the game completely. Well gues what? They didn't. Don't gest me wrong, they simplified the game quite a bit and I hate that (gameplay alone is great, if they would just stick to the original and just upgrade the graphics and improve some things) but they also managed to maintain some of the original X-COM feeling. I must say that I had a lot of fun playing the demo and was sad that it ended so fast. :) If I had the money I would buy this game instantly.

P.S. Anyone knows how to rotate the camera??

The Q and E keys on an American keyboard. It showed up for me during the training, intro mission when my last guy had to kill the final sectoid, and the angle would have been weird with the default camera.

I just played through the demo, and beyond it feeling very short, I was really impressed and liked it a lot. There were a couple of things I would have liked to figure out - I don't know if I could change the people in my team in the demo, but I couldn't figure out a way to before going on the mission. I could select individual people and swap them out for someone else. I also never got to use my sniper in the second mission, which was too bad. But that was a positioning thing not the game's fault.

(SPOILERS for the demo)
I also couldn't figure out if there was some way to stun or knock out the thin men at the end of the second mission like the scientist asked me to, so I just killed both of them and they exploded into poison gas, which caught my veteran guy.

Anyway, I'm now really excited for the actual game, it is definitely something I think I can see myself getting really caught up in and not ever going to bed.

Thanks a lot. Somehow I've missed that.

About the two thin men at the end. I also didn't know how to stun them so I just blasted them out with the rocket launcher. :)))
Demo was okay, but I wasn't terribly impressed. I give the benefit of the doubt, though.
2 benefits of the demo it seems.
1) A benchmark to see if you can run the full game.
2) A shitload of files to go through, seems like the game will be easily moddable. Did you know that the demo's difficulty is set to easy, but you can increase it? Did you know that you can enable one or two extra soldiers? That you can give sectoid's mind control?

Now to see if we can enable a few more missions, or at least disable the first one...
