Demo is over 5GB large!!

This is crazy. I mean a lot of full games are smaller that this. :) I hope it's worth the time and space to download. I'm a big fan of the original X-COM and I'm very critic when it comes to remakes. I just hpe they didn't destroy the feeling.

The current previews show that it will be a very worthy successor. Going to try it now and see if I like it or not, though I am still getting the SE. Only question is whether I'll get it from UK or Greece, since so far I can't find it here :(

The size is pretty crazy for the length of the demo. But I just finished it myself and I thought it was excellent, too bad I don't really have the money or time to devote to it, maybe around Christmas.
It's not the length that makes a game big, it's graphics and basically the engine. I can see this being a problem for people who only plays old games but hey? It's new tech, you need more memory.

I have a 120GB SSD and I have no issues filling new games with it because I actually don't keep 5 to 10 games installed at the same time, at least not new ones. Besides, it keeps you focused. ;)
everyone gets a +1 to their rep for this awsome topic!

However, i wont be downloading the demo, for it is too large, i don't know i can run it, and frankly i already have xcom the original, thats good enough for me.
And I am still downloading. Yay. I started at 18:14 and estimated time was 34 minutes. Now it's 35 minutes and still 900MB left. :-p
The demo made the game look really promising. Judging by it, the final product will probably be better than the original X-com.

JMich: The full game is supposed to be random missions for the most part, though it might have a couple of scripted ones (like the tutorial/first mission).
Is it official ? The last preview I read of the game some weeks ago mentioned the lack of randomly generated maps/mission as one of the main differences between the original and the new one (along with only having a single base)

Damn my internet, posting failed.
So far, there is a small number of maps (a dozen? two dozen?) which are used over and over. The number of enemies, type of enemies and objectives depend on current game progress and mission type. So while you will be seeing the same maps, the missions won't be the same. Think of it more or less like the UFO:A? kind of missions. No idea (yet) about story missions.
The demo contains the first tutorial mission (where I finally understood why people in the 2k forums want to shoot their commanding officer), the first base tutorial, and the first semi-random mission. The speeches of your scientist and rest is there in place of a tutorial, more or less giving you tips on how to progress (capture an alien, don't blow up their equipment etc). In my opinion, it does work better than hand-holding, even if only because it doesn't break immersion.
The demo is more or less a benchmark to see if our rig is good enough to run it, and unfortunately mine only has a decent frame rate on low :( It does run it so, which means I'll enjoy it :)
P.S. Anybody tried it with a controller yet?
So ummm anyone want to the "get Wodmarach this game on release" fund? played the demo and yeah see the name of the fund ;)

Just did and it plays better on controller than mouse in all honesty felt like a good game made better with controller..
Some good, some bad.

The base UI felt confusing. I really don't know why they didn't do it like it was in original X-com (or UFO Enemy Unknown like I know it) , which was pretty effective. Also the tactical controls felt a bit ackward to me, which hindered the game play a bit. And also, I can see myself getting annoyed by those ingame action display bits.

But on the plus side the tactical point seemed pretty good to me. In all, the demo doesn't make the game look like a solid 10 to me, I'd give it an 8. I think I'm gonna get this one from discount thought.
I like the UI a lot and the camera was fram from broken, quite fine.

However, the characters felt very stiff especially the marine/macho guys.
