orcishgamer: The new one pretty much tried to "be" the old ones, very few mechanics are changed from what I hear (kneeling and prone were removed in favor of "hunker down", for example).
It's nothing like the old X-com at all, at least judging from the demo. Sure, concept and settings are the same, squad-based strategy with base management in the background, but the execution is totally different. Combat was way more similar to Jagged Alliance than this new installment.
Licurg: Buy the first 3(UFO defence, Terror from the Deep and Apocalypse). The other 2 suck.
I LOVED Apocalypse, there's so much awesome stuff you could do in that game.
-Making entire buildings crumble on themselves by destroying the ground level? Check.
-Digging underground tunnels with alien weapons up to the target location? Check.
-Dogfighting in the city with airfighters and hovercrafts? Check.
-Jetpacks available since the beginning? Check.
-Portable teleporting devices? Check.
-Raiding enemy human factions HQ for money and fun? Check. Hey Steam haters, imagine if you could raid Valve's offices!
-Lovely retro 60's sci-fi visual design? Check (ok, this is highly subjective, I admit).
-Human-alien hybrids (born from the experiments of the former invasion, now social outcasts) as recruitable soldiers? Check.
-Optional real-time combat mode? Check!
I can agree that TFTD wasn't exactly memorable though. Not because it's bad, but because it's basically a reskin of the first game.
