kodeen: Thoughts are that this could kill the family plan, which seems reasonable to me since I don't see how they can continue that feature without verifying you still own a game.
Yea they stated the disc will now need to be in the tray while playing. Sounds like the family sharing is likely dead. Too bad, I liked the concept a lot and I don't support used games so it was a nice feature for me.
Anyways, isn't this now so that they changed the "validate every 24h" to "validate once when you play the game the first time on a new XBone"?

I feel there is possibly some undisclosed "installation cap" there then, why else would you need to validate the game he first time?

EDIT: Ah, and it needs the disc in tray in order to play? So why the need for validation the first time then? Isn't the disc in the tray good enough assurance?

JMich: A big money grabbing game corporation presenting a "flawed" concept, letting their rival attack that "flawed" concept instead of presenting their own strengths, then removing said "flawed" concept.
So, what does PS4 have now that is better than the XBox One? It's cheaper. Other than that? What other benefits has the PS4 over XBox One now?

kodeen: Well it's slightly more powerful, but probably not enough to matter. I think that it'll be, like this generation, down to your personal tastes in the exclusives. Personally I find the Infamous games to be a hoot, so I'll still be getting a PS4. Maybe an X1 at some point, but I never got around to getting a 360, so that might tell you something.
I thought the Xbox one was more powerful? Least according to Xboxians who used that response all the time when Sonyers attacked the DRM policies. Don't have a clue myself, not into techy stuff, just the games.

Supposedly no more connections required for offline play after the initial setup.

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

You will need to have the disc in the drive for the game to boot now.

timppu: Why would they make a reversal like this? After all, people don't care about DRM, except for a couple of freaks maybe.

/sarcasm
Your words, not mine.

Xbox One was judged and found to heavy and it got some backlash. It will come back, and I doubt that it will be a console which will embody the DRM free 'revolution'.

They will end up with an acceptable level of DRM, and people will not care much anymore. *shrug*

I think you only have to validate/activate the console once, and after that, you don't have to go ever online again.

Here are the differences I'm aware of, but it's mostly rumors and speculation:

1) While the CPU has the same 8-core count and clock speed, Microsoft confirmed that 5 cores would be available for X1 games while the rumor was that PS4 games could use 7 cores.
2) Confirmed - X1's DDR3 vs. PS4's GDDR5. I don't know exactly how much of a difference this makes.
3) Supposedly the PS4 GPU is based off of a higher version 7000 series than the X1's GPU

I didn't even think about this, but reading the official announcement they are killing off family sharing for XBLA games, which you would think they could retain ...

Now it's mainly about the games, which it always should be about... :) (The tech difference is usually too small tbh)
Oh hey, when you make a new post and you had the most recent post, it merges it for you now. Neat!
Tis but a shame. I was hoping that we'd have two irrelevant companies this generation. I really wanted the hubris to damage them. >:U

I think it's done that since at least sometime in 2010 ;-)
Cool, good news for us consumers, things are looking much fairer MS-side.

I'll still be buying a PS4 though, it's cheaper and doesn't include peripherals I'll never want to use.

Yeah could be. I was unsure if:

"After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again."

was referring to validating the new unit once, or the game when it is run for the first time on a XBox where it has not been run before. In my opinion it could be understood both ways, but maybe it is as you said.

So basically, it is like XBox360 then? I wonder if EA Pass will make a comeback? :)

Digital sharing officially gone.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

Oh, it will definitely damage them. As was the case when the DRM issue was announced, it takes a while for people in the non-techie mainstream to obtain this information. A lot of people pre-ordered the Xbox One not knowing about the DRM issue, and I've been hearing about a lot of cancellations by people who heard the news afterwards. It's been a real nightmare for our local GameStop at the very least.

You know how it is - good news is always slower to spread than bad news. The XB1 won't recover fully from this PR disaster before its release. I do feel sorry for them, because MS did eventually do the right thing.
