Fictionvision: Yeah for disc games. You could buy a disc from any region and it will work in any console world wide.
Aha, ok, thanks for the clarification.
A big money-grabbing game corporation listening to their customers... that's new?

A big money grabbing game corporation presenting a "flawed" concept, letting their rival attack that "flawed" concept instead of presenting their own strengths, then removing said "flawed" concept.
So, what does PS4 have now that is better than the XBox One? It's cheaper. Other than that? What other benefits has the PS4 over XBox One now?

It's not an XBox ;-)

Navagon: Seems like it's just hope-fueled speculation right now. There will be a change, but undoubtedly it won't be as comprehensive as it needs to be (and right now there's not a lot that they wouldn't have to change about it to entice me).

It will be interesting to see just how much of a compromise MS make on this. But no doubt it won't be total.
"So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

"An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games - After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

"Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today - There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
Doesn't sound like hope-fueled speculation...

Which means game exclusive. XBox has some, Wii has some, PC has some. If that's the bonus for you, that suits me.

Well it's slightly more powerful, but probably not enough to matter. I think that it'll be, like this generation, down to your personal tastes in the exclusives. Personally I find the Infamous games to be a hoot, so I'll still be getting a PS4. Maybe an X1 at some point, but I never got around to getting a 360, so that might tell you something.
Was wondering why Xbox 180 was trending.

I'm still likely to avoid buying one, but I hope it ends up being a complete reversal for the sake of the people who want it.
Why would they make a reversal like this? After all, people don't care about DRM, except for a couple of freaks maybe.

/sarcasm

Indie devs can still self-publish on PS4

Thoughts are that this could kill the family plan, which seems reasonable to me since I don't see how they can continue that feature without verifying you still own a game.

By My Microsoft! Should be a new curse word :P
Anyway, sad to see they seemed to have abandoned the Xbox "family" idea, one good thing out of the DRM scandal, the sharing of digital titles would have given it a pretty good advantage over both Steam and PS4...but not GOG!

DRM is fine as long as an internet favorite company is doing it. If it's anyone else they should burn in hell!

On a more serious note, I might actually get one now..... some day way down the line as I've never paid more than $200 for a console and don't plan to start now.

I know, which is kind of a shame. Maybe they will still enable it for digital purchases, but I won't count on it at this point.
