McDon: They still try to flog that move peripheral though... -_- I know what you're saying but still I don't know why they keep trying to force gamers to use it. They're still eager for the Wii and Kinect's popularity...

Anyway, back to topic, it isn't that Sony is the best company at marketing, it's just Microsoft is so painfully bad.
Yep, gotta agree. I mean the excuses they were coming up with this week for why the Xbone had DRM and why people should buy it were like something one of my 10 year old students would think up.

They just picked up that shovel and kept digging and digging and digging. :)

And no, I'm not a particular Sony fan (don't really think about them one way or the other but have always been satisfied with the products I've bought from them), although they are one of the most popular companies here in Asia, obviously, but in this case they did a stellar job. In fact, it was pretty much textbook "How to make your competitor look like a complete wanker, without really trying" :)

Darvond: Tis but a shame. I was hoping that we'd have two irrelevant companies this generation. I really wanted the hubris to damage them. >:U

McDon: Now, now Darvond, play fair...
Okay, I'll be fair. Their reputations have been damaged enough.
im primarily pc gamer (probably like 95% of my gaming time) . i never even considered buying an x-box, the games it offers and the name "microsoft" i already get when i boot up my computer. but the ps3 has a bunch of games i wanna play and couldnt even get on xbox (god of war, little big planet, uncharted etc). i cant think of a single x-box exclusive game that i would really want to play. i expect the same for the new generation, so definately going with ps4

Yeah gotta admit, the Sony used policy video was pure genius.
Least Sony care about Europe, Microsoft couldn't give a care about anywhere outside of North American as constantly shown during the screw-up conference.

That's actually my big reason too, apart from Kick Microsoft While They're Down Because They Deserve It :)

I've been dying to play Little Big Planet, Uncharted 2, The Last of Us (I've played parts of them on a friend's PS3, but want to own my own copies) and. of course, the upcoming Infamous: Second Son, which looks incredible.

For Xbox, there's really nothing I'm interested in playing or couldn't play enough on a friend's Xbox to satisfy myself.

They prove it with every product they sell unfortunately. America is the most important place and the rest of you can just shut up or buy something else.

Like I said, although I don't particularly hate Microsoft, I must admit I do love how most Windows products in Asia are bootleg. After all, they don't care about us when it comes to the products they make, so why should we be helping them fill their pockets :)

Hurray, Hurray, Hurray!

But as Jim Sterling said:
This will be remembered because some company will eventually come back with some shit.

At least this Battle seems to be won... :D

There's Killer Instinct although I wouldn't buy a console just for it. I want to like Ryse, I really do. I've always wanted a blockbuster Roman game. The QTE is just too much, however. Hopefully Crytek will use the 180 tactics as well and lessen/get rid of the QTE.

There's plenty of decent/good Xbox exclusives, it's just Microsoft have drowned them with marketing for Halo and Gears of War. Viva Pinata, Fable 2 (maybe too popular for an example but still), Crackdown, Kameo and Banjo Kazooie (although the latest one isn't meant to be too good, but that's probably cause its gameplay is so different).
There's probably more, I could can't remember them atm but you get the drift, there's to Xbox than generic shooters and racing games whether Microsoft want you to know or not.
Marketing meeting in MS corp.

"What if they really buy PS4 instead of XB1?"
"Naaah, wait for E3"
<after e3>
"oh shit shit shit shit fall back, fall back!"

MS damage control.

btw. it's cool news. One of the rare occasions when internet shitstorm changes something.

Yep, you've gotta love the 'internet shitstorm'. I was a very happy participant :)

timppu: EDIT: Ah, and it needs the disc in tray in order to play? So why the need for validation the first time then? Isn't the disc in the tray good enough assurance?
>mandatory installation on HDD
>requires disc in tray

wat...
I am happy that they made this decision. I still cant believe they got away with charging for multiplayer and now sony is jumping on that bandwagon.

But this disaster was fun to watch like the one when they tried to charge PC gamers for multiplayer .... and failed. Of course, the lousy Gears of War sales were blamed on piracy ..... riiiiight.

Basically the same as PC gaming in a nutshell before it went south.

Mandatory installation on HDD makes sense, because it does provide genuine beneifts in terms of data transfer speed. The disc in the drive is simply to authenticate ownership, which is fair enough. I wouldn't have expected Microsoft to enable full installation to the HDD and then to allow the user to simply sell the disc.

I know those who are unable to look after their stuff properly or are too lazy to peel their asses off the sofa to change a disc will bitch and moan about this change, but for the majority, this is a great solution.

Still, mandatory installation on HDD that can't be replaced by a bigger one is going to go south. Especially with 30-50GB games.

Well, yeah, there is that. Microsoft's decision to use a proprietary HDD format for the 360 wasn't the best. Mind you, the XB1 has a 500GB hard drive, so there's certainly space for at least 10-15 games. All depends on how many you play in one go.

Despite all this I don't think there is cause for celebration just yet. Terms and conditions can change whenever they want it and I won't believe it until the console has been released and established.
