The Wii was a success for Nintendo but a failure for publishers. Wii exclusives vastly outsold third-party titles whereas on the other platforms the third-party titles were the biggest sellers. It's not surprising that some publishers are already decreasing their support for the Wii U because of this and other reasons.

And yet it was better with the third parties than the GCN or the N64 were by far.

Even though the PS4 is more powerful (I think it was 7GB of GDDR5 as opposed to 5GB of DDR3?) and cheaper, the X1 has the same policies on games as Sony now, or close to it. Plus it will be releasing earlier.

The release date was another thing that I perceived, wrongly it seems. I thought PS4 would release in Decemberish (Which is close to Holidays here in Australia) while X1 released November.

I'm still going to buy a PS4... I mean, I own both the 360 and just recently purchased a PS3 and I have to admit I prefer my PS3 over my 360 by a long margin.. I will not be buying the XBone unless it comes down in price to like 200$... and even then it's still a maybe-not..

Did Sony even do a PS3 price cut cause of the PS4 announcement, cause that'd be the only info to actually affect me.

Nope, the system has been sitting at $299/£249/€299 for almost 4 years now. In Europe you can get a model with a 12GB SSD in it for €229/£185, but you will most likely have to upgrade that if you plan to get any digital games, so factor in the cost of a laptop hard drive.

LOL - Sony kicked Microsoft's ass from here to the moon and back again. First time I remember seeing a company back down this fast, but let's face it when sales are garbage and the PS4 is selling so many units distributors are saying there's no guarantee they'll be able to get it to you any time close to the released date, Microsoft knows it's screwed :)

I've actually never bought a console before, as I play on a friend's Xbox or PS3, but I will definitely be buying a PS4 once it releases -- Sony gets what gamers want AND they create a damn good machine.

Let's be honest here : these policies were not developed in a vacuum. I have absolutely no doubt that the major publishers were completely on board with ALL of this...until everything blew up. Then it was very man for himself.

That's why I'm not surprised at all at this major about face. Why take the hit by yourself, especially once Sony showed they weren't going down the same road?

Rumours suggest Sony just responded to the Microsoft backlash and abused it, they would have chance the DRM, had they the chance.
Nintendo were always DRM-free yet they're always ignored...

Actually, I'm not one of those Microsoft haters as I have always loved Windows (well, except for Window 8 which sucks!) and, overall, Bill Gates is actually a pretty decent guy (he gives hundreds of millions to charity and has funded enormous AIDS programs in Africa -- he's also said charity will get most of his money when he and Melinda kick off as he believes his kids should earn their own way). But.....

With the Xbone, they were absolutely wrong in every respect and I'm happy to see the majority of consumers told them they were in no uncertain terms.

Don't care why they did it. They did it. Which immediately proved they were a few light years ahead of Microsoft when it comes to understanding your customer and a helluva lot smarter :) Oh and no, they didn't 'abuse' it. They 'used it'. And proved what a smart company they were while they were doing it.

Business is all about assessing what your competitors are doing and doing it better than them. Sony understood that. Microsoft didn't have a clue.

They still try to flog that move peripheral though... -_- I know what you're saying but still I don't know why they keep trying to force gamers to use it. They're still eager for the Wii and Kinect's popularity...

Anyway, back to topic, it isn't that Sony is the best company at marketing, it's just Microsoft is so painfully bad.

Just read the OP: good news. Actually as a console user I feel it's a step back in usability, but it's better in theory (kind of like I feel better to buy DRM-free but I find Steam more comfortable to use). The biggest news to me is the removal of region lock.
