Xbox Live advertising division staff say the Xbox One was built with ads in mind; advertisers to get limited access to Kinect features.

The Xbox One and its dashboard user interface were built with advertising in mind, key members of Microsoft’s UK Xbox Live Advertising team have told website StickTwiddlers on a recent visit to the company’s headquarters.

A two-hour discussion with the senior digital art director/user experience designer and technical account manager for Xbox Live advertising revealed that all advertising created for the platform must work with both a standard Xbox controller and the console’s mandatory Kinect camera system.

advertisers to get limited access to Kinect features.

Haha, oh wow. And dumbass MERICANS will still buy this by the truckload so they can play halo and cawadoody while eating doritos, while being spied on by Kinect camera and having being forcefed ads while they play.

You obviously don't understand the dangerous precedent that merging paid advertisements into games sets, do you?

Also lol at "choice"
Yup.
Look at this and be disgusted.

Maybe it's an age thing, but I avoid "ads" like the plague whenever possible. DVR and taping shows, movie, ect. is used just to avoid this kind of nonsense. I would never knowingly and consciously, ask Xbox (or anything else for that matter) to play an ad on purpose. This type of shit is supposed to make me *want* an XBone? Don't think so. Great for advertisers...gamers? Not so much...

And the thing is they seemed to be proud that you could SHARE ads.
Honestly I did like it when friends linked me to ads from the old spice campaigns, but that is only because the ads were hilarious and well produced, and then I only saw them ONCE.

That video just makes me angry.

It's all just a digusting trend of society, at least here in the U.S. anyway. Nothing is sacred, and all is fair game for advertisers. Airports, Venues, buildings, roads, highways, shit, they even put advertising under the ice at hockey games. Personally, I'm sick of it, but there really is no end in sight. Money talks, and if people don't like having all this bullshit thrown in our faces every which way we turn...well too fukin bad I guess. So, I guess what's happening in the new console(s) is really no surprise. Probably won't be long, before you'll have to watch a 2 minute commercial before you're allowed to play your game

Crosmando points are valid and should be a major point of concern for gamers: a console with a mandatory always-on camera that has the potential to be used to harvest data on you? A UI that's apparently designed from the ground-up to throw ads at you? That should be something gamers should be railing against right now.

I'm not opposed to in-game or in-console advertising, as long as it's done in a way that's not intrusive and in-keeping with the theme and setting of your game. But can we really trust Microsoft to do this? For that matter, can we trust Sony?

That being said, treating this with Roman5-style crass sensationalism, and immature insulting of an entire nation isn't the way to go about raising awareness of it.

This is the result of 2 min google. Did not bother going further back than 2010. Come back when you have any news.

And I forgot - Australians are forced by law to buy Xbox One. Sorry, I forgot, my mistake. Never mind me, I will just go back to play my PC games.

(which, by the way,are full of product placements)

How will this affect multiplatform games?

How does any of that change the content of the article I posted? It isn't just about Xbox, except for the indie and strategy scene gaming is much more of a merged market these days, meaning anything that happens on consoles could be brought over to PC.

your sensational "news" is not very new at all, it is been done sinse the late 70's. Xbox One is not doing anything much more than what is not done already, including on the PC. Did not see you complain about them.

Anyway, I will let you get on with your rant against a console you will not be getting. God only knows why you do it. I am not getting an Xbox myself, but I am getting tired about all your rants on this topic here, and now feel like getting one just to spite you. Enough is enough already. Fine - you do not like the Xbox one, we got that by now. No need to start yet another thread.

Edit - speaking of which, I just got a random thought. I seems to remember a forum member complaining that there is too much discussion on consoles and console games on this forum. I wonder who it was... I just can't remember....

edit 2 - anyway, I am bowing out of this thread now. Have fun.

Please show me something that was NOT created with advertising in mind.
