Hey I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm unsure of where I can buy them in Australia.
Are they sold separately or do we get them bundled with a controller?
Also where I can find them in Oz will be appreciated

Amazon sells them, they're 20 USD state-side, unsure over there. But honestly the USB corded controllers are cheap and come with a crazy length cord (something like 6-8 feet). If you sit close enough to see your computer you should have no issues (unless you hook it up to your HDTV and use it from across the room I guess).
What you should look out for that the box says xbox360 controller for windows, those normally comes with a receiver. Did a quick google and found this it has it in stock, but the picture should help.
Thanks again GoGers, you guys are too good :)
I hoped I could get an official receiver separately so I could use a different controller, but it looks like MicroSoft don't like that... oh well I know a few places I can pick one up.

The "for Windows" ones cost extra but are exactly the same for the corded controllers. I didn't think the wireless ones came with the dongle, the dongle itself is 20 USD from Amazon.

EDIT: Now that I look at that picture, that is definitely a receiver in the box.

Careful buying from Amazon. I bought one there that was marketed as a Microsoft product through some very sly wording, but was actually a cheap knockoff. I never could get it to work right and ended up tossing the damn thing. The one linked by the solution, however, is definitely Microsoft brand and is really the only reliable way to get the receiver as Microsoft no longer sells it as a standalone product.

Theres "wireless for windows" which includes the receiver I've been tempted to pick one up for the wifes system since I already have a dongle for mine.

Honestly I find the corded ones to be nicer. You have to sacrifice a USB port anyway, and dealing with a cord beats dealing with batteries to me. Since the cord is really long, 8-10 feet long in fact, it's not really an issue.

And for that money he can easily buy a Razer Onza and use it on both without an issue with better x-pad :)

Thing is when your not playing fighters or old school games you don't really use the D-pad hell even on old school games you often don't touch them.

You can also get the receivers without the controller (which is obviously cheaper).

I bought this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000MGVAAQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1353618176&sr=8-5

It works perfectly, exactly the same as the wired ones.
You can also connect multiple (I've only tested with 2 but I presume 4 would work) using the same wireless adapter. The computer (and games) just pick them up as separate individual controllers. It's great for playing emulated games with friends :D

I do own both gamepads and Onza feels better

Better feel or not, the 360 controller is default compatible with any recent controller enabled PC game. The lack of hassle is well worth it to not run into issues with games like Darksiders.
