michaelleung: It's like they've pretty much scraped as much of GOG as they could. Look at the bottom page of GOG and Impulse. They both have the same Find Us links (in the same order). I mean, if it weren't for the white background, I'd have thought GOG was selling Demigod.
they need to start selling demigod for $9.99 and include the soundtrack, yes please.
What the heck. That's scarily similar.
GOG, give us your official opinion/explanation to this... cloning.

melchiz: Wow, lots of hostility in this thread.
The people at CD Projekt and Stardock have similiar philosophies vis-a-vis DRM and consumer rights. I see no reason for bickering.

There is hardly any hostility.. mostly confusion.
I'm hatching a conspiracy theory. This is how far I've gotten:
1. there is no way the similarity is unknown to Stardock
this means that they either
a. don't care > a bit rude, I thought Stardock had better manners
b. did this intentionally
2. if they did this intentionally, it was either
a. malicious > but Stardock belongs to the good guys, I think
b. benign > why haven't we heared anything yet?
Interesting fact:
GOG recently acquired rights to games from Kalypso Media, which also has connections to Stardock.
I'll continue brooding now.

What hostility? You should see Ezri's threads, now that's hostility for ya ^o^

RahaMies, I don't think we're the right party to offer explanations regarding our competitors websites. We know exactly as much as you do.

Trilogy: They are indeed similar, but I don't think they copied GOG with any bad intentions.
avatar
KnifeySpooney: sure, they did it with "good intentions" ;-). like all the competitors always do, because they care and want spread some one else ideas, yes? :D.
this whole thing reminds me of the quote i'v heard some time ago: if you cant innovate you just imitate. but it's never quite as good as the original :D

Or how about this:
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
If some idiot ever says that GOG copied Impulse then it's up to us to set 'em straight.

From what I know, Kalypso only handle the retail distribution of Stardock's titles. They don't have anything to do with the digital distribution and, of course, have dealings with numerous other developers and publishers. So, while it's not impossible that the two events are linked, it's a distant link.

"But it isss theeere! I have ssseen the truth!"

I noticed. :P But given Destro's response above, there doesn't seem to be very much more to it than a minor coincidence. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see digital distribution services buying each other out in future.
Did you guys see that Impuse just got a number of EA games? Of course all of them have SecuROM in them, but it shows that EA is warming up a bit more to Digital Distribution. Maybe we'll get their older games before too long. :)

Did you also notice their continuing love of regional restrictions?
The only thing that's remotely similar is the box art reflection. That's about it.

now selling your digital titles would be a nice feature for the wish list.

check the attached image and explain me why all elements are arranged in the same order and positioned in the exactly same places. why every single element is exactly the same on both websites?
sorry but it's pure 1:1 copy of the website wireframe, just with a little bit different graphics put on it.
