I pointed out to Zoomba at PAX that it looked similar to GOG. He kind've ignored me and moved on.

It certainly looks like they copied the entire layout. They've twiddled the dimensions a bit, but otherwise, they're pretty identical.

When I saw it yesterday the first thing I thought of was here. But I have to say, I'm not liking the fact that they now only show prices in the local currency despite charging you in USD. I like seeing the price I'm actually being charged; not the price they assume I'm going to be charged. So I don't think I'll be using Impulse anymore until they fix that. As such, this phase 4 is crap for non-US people.

The old Impulse showed me US prices pre-converted as well as HK prices, so it looked like I was paying less than I actually was. Now that I've been given the whole truth, I don't feel as tempted to buy from them anymore.

It definitely looks the same. It is nice, though. :) Great that it immediately displays the prices in my country's currency. For this, it is a total win over Steam's "your local currency sh1t" (1. we're not in the EU, 2. the Euro is not our local currency).

I have to say - it's one of the uglier site designs I've seen recently. The white just doesn't work for me. I'm pretty sure it's #FAFAFA, which is waaaay closer to white than you should ever get, especially on a background.

It may be displaying prices in your currency, but remember two important things:
1 - The prices are generated from a daily exchange rate that most likely is lower than the one used by bank/credit card organisation who handles your payment to Impulse on your behalf.
2 - Impulse are actually charging you in USD, thus with the first point, you are most likely paying more than the price displayed to you.
I don't consider that handy, I consider it deceitful.

Yeah, nearly the same, except for one small difference...Impulse is lame and GOG is DRM free, and trend setting. :o)

They are indeed similar, but I don't think they copied GOG with any bad intentions. Web site designs tend to follow quite similar guidelines and usability concerns. One does something right and others will follow. It's not like GOG was first to use that slideshow thingy for an example. I think I've seen Apple use it too and Steam does it also. Not saying that they invented it either but still, everyone has got one of those.
Yes, object placement looks the same and New Releases/Coming Soon tab is basically the same. It is still possible that they both used same objects or ready-made methods to do the page. Layout is similar, cannot deny it :)
At least they both are staying away from those hideous Flash hells with some stupid streaming videos and 1000 things on one page included with a gruesome "little image used 1000 times to fill background") images that remind me of Twitter account (D2D, Gamersgate...). I think Impulse front page looks elegant and so does GOG.
As this has gone bit to web designing, compare some electronics manufacturers pages. Nokia to Apple and HP to Apple for an example. You can see why you should try to follow those guidelines too. Apple page just looks simple and modern (and I am not an Apple user, mind you).

Oh....my god...
On the bright side, if a service like Impulse which has been around a couple years about and is established is ripping off GOG, that probably bodes well for GOG's future. :P
