PhoenixWright: It would be cool if Stardock games showed up on Steam... because I hate Impulse.
May 2012

StarDock has 1 year exclusivity to Impulse after that they will be able to sell via other services.

 I bet Gabe will be Brad's new best friend.

TheCheese33: Good. Impulse is garbage. The sooner they're scooped up by the Steam collective, the better.
What makes you think Impulse is garbage?

Their customer service is below zero. I had trouble getting my copy of Street Fighter IV to run, and they accused me of being a thief. I don't even know what I did wrong. Fuck them.

That is crazy. Accusing you of being a thief just because a game wouldn't run?!

Yep. As much as people like to bally-hoo services like Steam, I have had much better luck getting my issues resolved than I ever did with Stardock.

The question is if Stardock will want to sell in other services, particularly Steam. Now that GS is in control of Impulse they can start selling any game they can get their hands on but Stardock's IPs still belong to Stardock and Brad hates Steam. I can see them selling their games on GG, D2D, an others but Steam is unlikely.

But as the Stardock fanboys have discovered Brad loves money more.

I don't think his enormous ego would allow that. This is the guy who thought Elemental was perfect on release, that everybody who disliked the game were haters and told game reviewers to fuck off for their criticism.

Yeah but his enormous ego quickly deflated when he saw the sales figures. It deflated when he read the operating costs of Stardock and Impulse deciding to sack Stardock staff and flog off Impulse. Ego is great but it's nothing without a healthy bank account.
That explains why Gabe Newell' is very inflated. His ego has to match his bank account.

I can't comment on future plans. All I can say is right now, we're preparing to release a number of Steamworks titles as well as our usual flow of non-Steamworks games. Magicka was the first one to go out since there was such high interest in it within the community when it originally launched.
Refusing to sell Steamworks titles is like pretending Steam does not exist, which is silly. Exposing your customers to Steam is a non-issue at this point because Steam is so well know and required for so many games.

What I did like and wish still happened though is Steamworks games going up for sale elsewhere with the Steam requirement removed.

Ultimately, it means increased competition for game sales. I've seen no evidence that Valve gets a penny for every copy of Magika bought through Impulse, Gamersgate and Direct2drive, yet I'd imagine the fact that they all selling the same game would prompt a firm increase in price competition between the distributors (see also D2D's regular 15%-20% off codes).
