I didn't really like the Xcom UFO game. =/ I guess you had to be there? It looked really complicated and I'm not a complicated person. Guess I should check the others out though. Good thing it was only 2$.

anjohl: There are two games that I know of that arn't crappy ubisoft ports that don't work on Steam. Slamit Pinball and Stubbs the Zombie. The latter is an Apyr port, so that's nothing suprising.
GOG is better than Steam, when all other things are considared, as simply a game downloading service, but Steam almost always has cheaper prices (Except that Interplay fiasco), plus you get Steamcloud, achievements, community, etc.
For what you get, the $5 Torchlight deal beats *Everything* on GOG, objectively, in terms of value and best-buy status.

Steam has (and had) plenty of games that had issues on modern PCs due to their extremely lax way of testing them. They simply put stuff on sale and let the publisher figure it out. Result: a lot of lazy cash-ins with games which take a lot of effort to get going. And, like usual, if a game doesn't work, you can kiss your money goodbye because Steam pretends it's done its bit and the rest is up to you, despite them taking 30% of your cash.
What I basically mean is: if I got to choose and spend $10 on GOG and KNOW the game will work or I spend $5 on Steam and take a gamble along with all the other inconveniences of Steam, the choice is easy. GOG adds value to their games, Steam detracts from it.
Oh, and saying "$5 Torchlight deal beats *Everything* on GOG" is a bit silly. Maybe in terms of real commercial value since Torchlight is a recent game but I can think of a dozen games or more on GOG that have a better value as a game. I bought Torchlight and barely even played it yet I've played several GOG games for hours since then.

@Red_Avatar
nice reply
I agree with Red_Avatar, i much rather get a game from here even though steam might have it on sale for much cheaper, firstly cause i'd rather support gog and second i want to actually own the game.....especially now, i cant log into steam since it updated a week ago, yep a week of not being able to access my games...don't put all your eggs in one basket ppl.

Nothing new here.

Especially not given that he was on an anti-Steam tirade not so very long ago.
I use Steam for my main source for PC games atm but eh the only real problem I've had is my copy of Crysis only came with the 32 bit executeable and it wont work... basically they dont test them all out and if its an old DOS game most of the time they just Dosbox it...

General_Dodanna: and if its an old DOS game most of the time they just Dosbox it...

That's up to the publisher. But no, Steam don't test anything at all. Nor do they even remove broken content from sale even after multiple warnings. It really is all up to the publisher with Steam.
I am not sure it is even fair to compare Steam and GOG. Steam has been around much longer, has new (costly), and older (less costly) games. Plus the whole of Steam is built on top of a DRM platform.
GOG is only 1 year old, specializes in older games set at two price points, that are stated to work with XP and Vista. GOG is also from its inception dedicated to being DRM Free and the little fact that you really own the games; in the sense that they reside on your hard drive to install and uninstall at will.
For me personally, I have given up on Steam due to the DRM, and the always online (even their off-line has to remind you that it is off line when the computer starts), and will stick with GOG, GG, and Indie publishers for true DRM Free gaming.
So, for me there is no apple to apple comparison here, as Steam and GOG are radically different no matter how cheaply a game may sell for on any given weekend.

I'm agnostic. I like both platforms for different reasons... and I'm think about buying these....
...but, can anyone confirm that they work ok on modern systems?
(/PS/ I do think that GOG might need to start running a few slightly bigger weekend sales though.. these days 25-30% off doesn't look so great when compared to the stuff steam is pulling....)

Anjohl's hypocrisy fail? Or did he switch side after his ban on Steam forums? Who knows...
Im not saying that I like or prefer Steam over GOG but I havnt purchased anything over here yet... Im keeping an eye out over here for a few games that I would love to get of course (Quest For Glory V, Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2......) cant think of any more atm but I have a lot of classics on disc still... of course Steam isnt the End all of anything but Crysis is the only thing I've had a problem with... definitely debating getting Fallout Tactics tho (already have 1 and 2 on disc heh)

Or maybe he simply didn't find being anti-Steam to be a controversial enough stance?

Have you noticed how much more most games from Steam cost? It makes sense for their sales to go so low. Any more than 25-30% off on GOG and it would be highway robbery.

The only one I've tried on Steam was Terror from the Deep (which was the first one they released on Steam). It was playable to a fashion, but you may have to mess with core affinities and the like if it's running too fast.
But hey, if you want them, go ahead and buy them. Especially now that they are finally available in Japan again.
