HoneyBakedHam: So is 1 gold really valuable in WoW?
Or are free players supposed to be poor?
WoW is a game that uses a tiered monetary system. Copper, Silver, Gold and Plat, at 100 to 1 exchanges IIRC. So 10 gold is worth far more than it would be in most other games.
10 gold is a decent amount for level 20s. It's enough to buy a mount and the relevant training and pay for various game related expenses like repairs.

As you level up though, it's less and less significant. Just from leveling, Level 70 characters generally have 1000+ gold, Level 80 characters have 2000-3000 gold and Level 85 characters have 5000+, and this doesn't take into account profitable ventures on the Auction House.

JudasIscariot: Level 20?? In WoW??? That takes ...a couple of hours?? It's even faster now that the new expansion has come out. I remember when I made a new character when the Lich King came out. I think I was level 20 in about 4 hours or so. It's not that difficult especially with some of the quest and map mods that help you coordinate your quests in a more efficient manner.
You can't play the new expansion in the free version.

GameRager: The free game come with the expansions?
Only with the first expansion, Burning Crusade I believe.

KavazovAngel: It has some limitations though... Max level is level 20, and you can only gather a max of 10 gold. Also, every vanilla and TBC account has been upgraded to a Battle Chest account. :)

Thank you, Blizzard!

More info here!

If anybody wants to try it, write here, I have 5 keys that I wanna give away! (you don't need a key to play it, but I have 5 spare, and just wanna give them away - with a key you can activate the game on your Battle.Net account right away)
On a related note, I have one 30 day key with no trial restrictions if anyone is interested. First PM gets it.

lukaszthegreat: i might go into tourist mode and just create avatar to see the world without actually playing the game (as it always seemed to be extremely boring)
Only thing that has ever drawn me to MMO's, really. I think I'll check this out, I haven't seen the overhauled Azaroth yet.

Maybe Blizzard should should start tourist tours ;-)

Got a try-key with my Warcraft 3 bestseller pack, but never used it, because I'm not a big fan of online gaming (especially with a monthly fee), but was also interested how the world looks like.

Ahhh... Okay. Thanks for that.

I'm a recovering EvE Addict, so I do business in ISK :-)
All inactive WoW accounts should now be able to activate a free 7 days of gametime. Check out your account!

Also, those that want to start playing the free version, PM me for a key!

And just a mere 70 bucks in expacs to keep going afterward?:)

Well and 10 gold is more than you'd have by that level (or right around what you'd have) without folks giving it to you.

Absolutely. :p

Actually, activating full WoW vanilla copy will automatically give you TBC, afaik. At least, all present WoW and TBC accounts were upgraded to Battle Chest accounts for free (should be the same for new accounts, but I can't say for sure).

Cataclysm goes for around $20 usually, same with WotLK, so you won't be exactly paying $70. But, you don't really need them right away, you can always buy them once you're ready to go to those areas. :)

But you're talking about people re-activating, most of them already have level 60s or 70s already and do need them immediately. It doesn't take long to power from 70 to 80, right?

Well, if you're looking to play past 60 and 70, you'll have to get them, yes. You're right.

What else would you do? There's not a bunch of folks still hanging around running BWL is there?

Haven't logged in since January, so I can't say. But there are always people looking to do old raids, it is fun. :)

Personally, it would have been better for Blizzard to provide WoW for free until the normal 60 level limit, than this artificial 20 level limit that they set.

EDIT: This limit is not on spot, since it is keeping players away from dungeons, raids, and PVP.

You can't do Warsong Gulch as a trial? That starts at level 11, or did.

Yes, but running old raids for fun with a bunch of level 85s sort of loses the difficulty, it's like having your level 60 friend run you through VanCleefe.

If there was a level 60 guild still running classic raids I'd almost make a toon for that. I guess classic Naxx is gone for good, too bad that, 4 Horseman might have been the best raid fight ever.
