ZPavelZ: It seems to be a recent thing and yeah, it makes a difference to me as well. I had lots of games on desura because of the keys that came with indie bundles but I didn't buy anything there until recently (after they started offering direct downloads).
Awesome. I have been trying to support their Indie Royale bundles all this while and thus have quite some games on Desura. Hopefully the success of the IR franchise is one of the things that made them introduce this feature. Also it is so much easier to download your games from one place instead of browsing each IR bundle page separately.

thebum06: Are there any plugins that change the UI of the client? I can find skins that change the color, but haven't been able to find anything that changes the layout. That's my biggest issue with the client.
I think one of the users on this forum has created a very nice make-it-look-like-Steam mod for their client and there is a thread about it here.

As ZPavelZ said, and I think it was Barefoot Monkey who was making it.

Yes, I found the thread, but the skin wasn't ready for release yet.

jamyskis: Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

My use of Steam is declining by the hour.

Titanium: With your knowledge base actually increasing.

I see a correlation here. :D
Let's just call it a moment of stupidity that lasted two years. Just bought a couple of games off Desura to celebrate my new-found intelligence. :-D
I was cautious about Desura at first, but after using it for a while I think it's one of the best things around right now. It certainly has the best update system I've seen (GOG and Steam are both lacking in this area, for different reasons).

That's right, I'm very close to finishing a layout mod. I just haven't had a chance in the last two weeks to work on it and get the last few realease-blockers out of the way :( But it's still a priority for me.

I really like the openness of the service, but I kind off dislike their client and the way it works. This new "standalone installer" thing is a definite plus in my opinion.

Once Evolve get's a bit better, I might use that combined with all DRM-free games, since I do like having a non-obtrusive client tracking my gaming stats. I'm weird like that.
From games bought through bundles I know they started for some games with installer, which is really great for me (not really a fan of client systems), but they need to make it more clear on the shop page. Good to hear it's still on progress, so hopefully this got also fix. Really looking forward to it, but to have both options (automatic client system and drm-free direct downloads via webpage) sounds really great.Looking forward to it.
i got desura 2 weeks ago, was doubtful to if it was anything like steam. but it isnt.
got a bunch of games through the indiebundles and i wish more bundles would focus on desura too then just steam.
I agree with posted above - since they are offering DRM-free downloads via browser now, it makes perfect sense to advertise that more.
Also this means GOG is really stepping into an increasingly tightening market with their indie releases (with Desura already having DD and Humble guys basically ready to launch Humble Store)
For really lazy people (like me) Desura manages your mods pretty well too. I like it.

All Indie Royales always give you Desura-keys for every game. ;) Indie Royale is basically co-creation between Desura and indiegames.com

which is good, but there are many bundles that dont give desura keys like the indie face kick bundle but thats obviously also because desura doesnt have the games.
in which that desura is limited to a small catalogue.
the royal xmas bundle also had 1 game included that was steam only.

Yeah that is true. But I heard you can ask e.g. for BEEP Desura-key if you bought Beemine (which I am certainly going to do now that they provide DD).
And yeah you are right IR bundles have a system that is a little weird. Essentially they give you the Desura-key, which puts all of the bundle games on your Desura page the moment you redeem it. However, if some of them require Steam, launching them in Desura will simply result in the web-site giving you the Steam-key for the game (the same one that you get in the IR bundle page).

This is correct. I bought through Be Mine and the devs gave me a Desura key when I asked.
low rated
so people cannot stop going on about how bad Steam is and how much they hate Origin because they don't want two clients, yet they jump on Desura just because it wraps itself in en vogue indie garments?

some double standards.
