nmillar: It's the biggest free-standing mountain in the world, often referred to as the fourth summit (there are seven summits altogether - the biggest mountain on each continent - I intend to do them all in my lifetime).
I strongly advise watching dying for everest tv series if you haven't already. It really shows the reality of climbing everest.

GameRager: WTF is killimanjaro?

You already climbed several?

No, this will be my first, so it'll be a new challenge for me. Akwater's done Kilimanjaro before, so I'll be leaning heavily on his experience! :)

GameRager: Sounds nice and all, but what's the point? They've already been done to death.......IMO we have to find some new challenged for mankind. Preferrably ones that haven;'t been trashed by said mankind(I'm looking at you, Everest trash dumpers...).
If you have a look at the Kili Warriors website, you'll see they are actually taking action to prevent further "trashing" of the environment.

As for the point? Well, it's a personal challenge for me and I'll be raising money for a good cause.

I'm hoping to be able to stay in Africa for a while after the climb and help UNICEF dig some wells too, which will be another amazing, if somewhat heart-wrenching experience.
Would be cool to get some gogers at the summit with GoG wear for a group picture!
I may have found a cheaper option for those who are worried about the affordability:

http://7summits.com/kilimanjaro/trips.php

I haven't contacted this company yet, but will do so if people think this is a viable option.

It might just be an expensive venture. I mean, it's not like a weekend to Paris or something, you're off climbing a huge mountain. So I'll pass for now, although I really like the initiative. Once I have a job and some money to spend (which won't take too long, ~2 yr max) I'll look into it again.
To be honest I'd rather spend the little extra money on a company that sound like it looks after you better, with aclimatization days and all that and enjoy it. Then skimp and rush through it.

If its the t-shirts, I suspect you'd be a bit chilly up there

Maybe GOG could sponsor you and provide a sticker or 5 so you can adorn the mountain with DRM free advertising on the way up

They'll get to the top of the mountain and see a sign saying "So you've conquered killimanjaro and now you want a REAL challenge, Another World, $9.99 DRM free on GOG.Com"

Couldn't agree more. That's what credit cards are for anyway, isn't it? :)

We could set up a www.chipin.com page if other people wanted to help out?

I came to the same conclusion while researching it, better company and paying to get a little bit more will go a long ways towards enjoying it.
Word :) More time at the summit means those who go would enjoy the pie that much more... and I hear we might have some cuban cigars!

(lol... YEAH im that guy... I'll smoke a cig at the top of a mtn... what of it? :) )

If you climb that mountain you can do whatever the hell you like at the top (well without defacing the mountain that is)!

Do you know if they can accommodate an extra porter for someone? If I went I would need batteries hauled up and they're not that light. The spent batteries could be left at the lower camps and collected on the way back down.

EDIT: And I'm afraid to ask what stabilizing poop means. If someone asked me to do that I'd kick some dirt at the poo pile.
