If there was sentient androids, they wouldn't want humans, yes to dogs and probably yes to electric sheeps ... but clearly not humans and not cats either. This is known.

A_Future_Pilot: Android in the sense of Data from Star Trek: Next Gen. (And as to the weak vs strong AI debate...On the one hand I'm not sure if I think true sentience will ever be reached, but then, how would we know? If a non-sentient being could act completely sentient because of its programming, how would we ever know it wasn't in fact sentient? If something is an EXACT copy, how then can you tell it is a copy? But I digress...)
Wouldn't Lal be a better example than Data? Compared to Data, Lal was more "human."
I'm thinking of this from a moral standpoint. Is it ethical to engineer your "perfect woman" and program her as you see fit? Are you looking for a loving, emotional relationship or just a facsimile of life you can screw?
What could you offer to a cold super intelligent computer with a female body?
You'd probably end up with a "get lost, you dummy human".

Unless it's an android made exactly for you as your perfect girl.
Why not, then, it would be still a better love story than Twi.. err.. than current non-existent one. XD

One night robo-stands only.
Why don't we just start handing out DVD copies of "Cherry 2000" and be done with this thread!? :D

I'm guessing that if they had true sentience then they would find us to be inferior in most ways and <bingo> species-ism. Or we program that stuff out, in which case the android wouldn't really have sentience - and then eventually we would grow tired of the android, like a kid who grows bored with his Furby.
It depends. If she (it?) is like no.6 or no.8 from Battlestar Galactica, it's a no-brainer! You could start calling me "fraking toaster" right away! :)

Molière has a word on that.

Hell yes, I'll take one! Cherry 2000 is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. And not in an ironic hipster kinda way, I actually think it's 10 times more entertaining than Mad Max. Lester is a serious contender for the most hilariously insane movie villain of all times, him and his postapocalyptic Hawaiian T-shirts.

Everything Tim Thomerson has ever done is the greatest. He was Dollman!

That's why I specified sentient. I personally wouldn't want to have my own personal sex-bot. But if she was truly intelligent (or at least gave the impression of being entirely intelligent...once again going back to the strong vs weak AI debate), then the fact that she's built out of cogs and gears wouldn't bother me (metaphorically speaking...she'd have to be physically attractive to me, just as any girl would need to be physically attractive to my tastes for me to date her).
