In exchange, they lose people who don't have Steam accounts and are morally opposed to getting them.
Not only people without Steam accounts. I have a steam account, but I refuse to support a distributor who encourages the use of IP blocking in their own DRM system.

Wishbone: Worms + Steamworks = Epic Fail

If it wasn't integrated with Steamworks then it wouldn't be an insta-buy for me; I want to be able to set up a match fast with someone on my friends list, or invite others just as fast in a lobby or see who's playing, or have a centralized ladder system and ranking.
But I'm the few people around here who actually like Steam so your mileage may vary.
Is this the fabled PC port of Worms 2 Armageddon? I heard it sucked.

Fair enough, although I am sure that you would also admit that is still a pretty small group, if only because boycotts are so rarely followed-through.

Same here. The only reason I'm interested in this version is Steamworks. I really like when multiplayer is seemless.
It is actually easy to focus on all the bad aspects of Steam/Steamworks and forget the good. Sometimes, you actually want all the bloat :p
I remember getting this for my 10th birthday and playing it to death. Last I checked I still couldn't spend a minute in front of a Worms game without getting an incredibly strong urge to create a comical silhouette of myself by way of running through a wall... Yeah, I played it that much.

I wouldn't know how large such a group is. All I know is that I personally, won't support anything that contains Steamworks and is being sold at a regular price. And this is simply because I'd rather deny Valve as much of their potential 40% profit from the sale of such a game as possible. But I'm also not going to do without a game I might be interested in playing; which is why I can very happily wait for a 75% off sale.

In that case, all I have to say is, "thanks for sharing"

You realize unless you buy directly from the developer. Someone is getting that 40% percent...or more. Also it isn't all "profit" believe it or not bandwidth cost money. I don't know why everyone thinks digital distribution has no overhead. Even more so with Steamworks. Look at the break down for a console title:

But keep fighting that good fight, show those developers our platform sucks for making money. -.-

Of course I realize. And if given the choice, I'd rather that cut of the price go to a different service, such as GamersGate or D2D (although more likely GamersGate due to all the restrictions on D2D). The problem here is that when Steamworks infests a product, none of the decent digital distributors will touch it. And I simply don't want Valve get any of that cut. As far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve it.
So yes, I will keep telling developer that using a DRM system that IP blocks entire countries at a whim, is the wrong way to get my money.

Any of you have Worms Armageddon? I'm currently making maps for that game and with the last patch (from 2008) you can easily play online through a lobby and even share maps so if anyone's interested in a game ...

Those problems have less to do with Steam and more to do with Publisher desires. Unfortunately all the biggest publishers will push or create DRM that lets them block entire countries.
But I could see why this would bother you personally. My brother lives in Japan too and I have to help him get games when he wants them from Steam.
It's sad because these companies have forgotten that respect from the customer is vital to success as well and a company that takes care of its customers and doesn't inconvenience them every time they want to run a game scores good points and sell more games as a result. Publishers are too often comparing themselves to the movie industry where viewers don't even know who actually produced and released the movie nor do they care but with games, publishers directly influence the gaming experience: DRM, anti-piracy measures, lack of documentation, lack of polishing of the game, no or little support after release, etc. etc. etc. - gamers aren't blind to this and don't forget when a publisher has screwed them over in the past.
