I haven't found a thread about it yet, but I think we need one. Because I found the book pretty sweet in taking a rather unique approach to the whole Zombie topic.

Now that the first trailer is out,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md6Dvxdr0AQ

what do you think about it?

From the looks of it, they are expending the Israeli storyline a lot (which is awesome). On the other hand, they are loosing the segmented approach of the book and seem to follow a single storyline. Also, they are showing some nice new concepts of "Zombie behaviour" which I haven't seen before (Zombies behaving like a "liquid flood"). Which is quite a feat. Still half a year till its release, but I'm already looking forward to it. Probably my most anticipated release of next year.

Also, whenever a new World War is mentioned, I ask myself this.

I'm currently reading the book (excellent companion to RE6) and I was surprised when I saw the trailer, story-wise it doesnt seem to follow the book as you say, which is odd, considering that apparently there was a bidding war between Pitt and DiCaprio for the rights.

As regards the israeli line, I am guessing thats the part of the part of the book where israel self quarantines itself, I'm about halfway through the book and that only accounts for about 2-3 pages, I hope theres more to the movie than that, unless the israel bit returns later in the book?

Trailer looks awesome though.

A bit here and there. Israel is mostly ever mentioned as "the only prepared country" and all that. There is a very compelling story by an IDF soldier (or some bystander) about an operation, but that is about it. Nowhere near the amount of IDF personal seen in the trailer.

But, as they say, "trailers always lie". Maybe they stitched together 10 minutes of the movie for this trailer.

Ah, OK, cheers, I like the way the book takes so many viewpoints, like the arab kid in the israeli section or the yonkers debacle etc. and personalises such a global catastrophe, I cant see how the movie could do that, so, its going to be interesting to see how the movie can cope with that and not appear too fragmented.
I can't take the movie seriously when the zombies are taklling each other like a bunch of american football players and that scene of them climbing up walls togerther like they were ants.
I've got the book, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Have a rule about not seeing a movie based on a novel before reading it, so now I'm under a time constraint :)
If World War Z happened, two countries would be more than prepared. South Korea and Israel.
As a fan of the book, the film looks horrid.
I hope the director of this travesty is asphyxiated.
I like Brad Pitt. I liked the trailer too.

Until the zombies came out.

Seriously, what the hell was that?

Well ovoon, when Hollywood notices that something can be used to make lots of money, they often rape and exploit the living shit out of it. It's beautiful, ain't it?
The only way the book was ever going to work in another form was as a mini series. There's too much going on in too many different locations to fit in to a single film.

That being said, I'm still disappointed that they seem to have gone in the direction of the main character no longer being a reporter/writer, and instead being Uber Anti Zombie Commando Action Man. And if this is the direction they were going, why spend the licensing money for the rights to a completely different property?

lol the zombies flows like human tsunami
I am slightly excited about this movie. Zombies behaving like a aggressive wall of flesh is something new and unique. In "regular" zombie apocalypse, if you have fully loaded M4A1, you are generally safe. Here, you are not safe even if you have a rocket launcher.

On the other hand, I don't really like CGI in horror movies. There's nothing that can beat "real life" special effects. CGI zombies, at least on that trailer, look lame to me.

But without CGI, that "wall of flesh" (I like that expression) concept wouldn't be possible.

But this is the only concept when zombies can be a real threat. Slow zombies that you can kill with a broomstick are funny at most. Charging zombies, that don't pay attention to anything other than you... you don't have any time to aim to the head, and even if, it doesn't matter, because there are hundreds of them that will peel you to the bone in few seconds. Awesome.

This looks even worse than I am Legend. What's the point of buying rights to Stokers Dracula, when all you want is to make another Twillight.

WWZ would be perfect as a mini series
