Trans-Kobold Shiv-Knights are my favorite. I actually like to mod in Shiv-Knight as a class to other games.

Dominic998: Or maybe something you can leave on in the background while you do your work, and come back to it periodically. I sometimes do that with Dwarf Fortress, but I am sure other city building/business sims style games here on GOG would work quite well.
I did that once with SimCity 2000. When I came back to the game (after about 2 hours), I think I'd been recalled as mayor (damn fires ;-))

is dwarf fortress any good? what ive seen its hard as nails
go with UFO Aftermath quasi turn base plus when you get to end game you and you get turrets/psi attacks it is fun to freeze the enemy and blast them away with machine guns/turret fire.

It has a steep learning curve but its worth it imo. There are so many things you can do and so much complexity (some people have even built crude computers in the game!). Just be prepared to die quite quickly (and often hilariously) your first few tries.

If you're gonna give it a go I would suggest watching some of the tutorials on youtube to get you started. This is good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koZUS2h-Yzc though I fear now his advice may be a bit out of date.

Daedalus1138: Tyrian 2000 (one of the free ones) is a great game to just spend a little time playing. It's strangely addicting. I played the game for a little over an hour (without any breaks) instead of playing Lost Odyssey. Also, it's pretty fun to play without sound.
Another vote for this.

I played it with music though and the beer catching loop level music still plays in my head from time to time.

Desktop Dungeons should fit the bill. I often play it while waiting for Hulu or youtube to buffer enough on my slow connection...

my paycheck came out early (have no idea why) and I bought guilty gear and flatout
I don't need sound to play them and have a good time "working" =P
To all people who play at work : LUCKY BASTARDS.
