timppu: Is that really so?
I didn't say that's actually the case. I said the PC is such a non-entity in terms of gaming systems over there that you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the case.
And how about Wizards & Warriors? Who got that?

I'd like to see it here too!

Btw - I just start playing W8 again. I made it to Arnika :)

jseeley150: I have to say, that particular genre (1st person party dungeon crawl) is one of my all-time favorites. I have a hard time saying which type I prefer, though - fluid movement (Wizardry 6-8, M&M 6-8 (9 was unplayable for me)) or block movement (Wizardry 1-5, Bard's Tale, EotB, etc.). Regardless, I am happy to have an auto-mapper nowadays, although I still have the maps and notes I made as a young child for Wizardry 1, Bard's Tale, etc.
Wizardry 6 and 7 used block movement too.

Haha, yeah, I remember that one. I had a load of fun with that. Wish he'd stopped there and never inflicted Dungeon Lords on an unsuspecting public.

Doh! You are right, of course. I completely spaced it. I was thinking of M&M 6-8 movement, and remembered the outdoor areas of Wiz 6-7, and confused the two series.

The only thing I didn't like about Wiz 6-7 was how brutally unforgiving they were in the early game.

Lucky bastard Y_Y , i got a second hand copy and im waiting for delivery, still i would love to see Wizardry 8 here(id rather keep my "new" discs for special occasions only).

Btw if they ever make a multyplayer version of wizardry i hope they make it to work like Wiz 7,i mean alot of parties compeating for the same goal-goals :D(it was wiz 7 right?).

And about the lack of humor in the jap versions...wiz without humor equals something else...

It's like M&M without a hint of sci-fi. *burns HoMM Forge naysayers at the stake*

Hmm.. 4 was where you were Werdna, right? They were not that brutally unforgiving, but iirc, in 4 you could go back and get new "party members" (and if you died, didn't you just get thrown back in your prison? I don't recall.). In 6-7, if you had a party member die, there wasn't a way to replace them in the early game. No Gilgamesh's tavern. Or, if there was, I never figured it out.

arusaku: Funny thing is... Guess who owns Aeria IPM? Gamespot... Yup...

vasyl: It's Gamepot, not Gamespot, which makes it even funnier. Judging by the name of that company it probably does not have representation in the US.
Damn my eyes! Great catch btw! But actually... Gamepot does have a subsidiary in the US:

Gamepot USA

So maybe there is hope actually?
The biggest problem with W8 (and I love this game a lot) is the Arnika Road sections. They are just super super tough in the beginning, and at that point your gear is terrible. Unlike all the other Wizardry games, W8 goes the "elite mooks" route instead of the "waves and waves of redshirts" route, so even veterans of the series are surprised at first. Add to that the fact that enemy groups can move as individuals and surround you, while your party is stuck as a single entity, and it ends up being hard-mode right out of the gate.

Before I got good at the game, I had to just cram myself into one of the (convenient!) nooks in the terrain so I couldn't get surrounded, and hope I could kill everyone before my stamina ran out. It's rather counter-intuitive, that the best battle plan is backing YOURSELF into a corner instead of retaining your freedom of movement.

Once you get over the pants-on-head learning curve, the game is much, much better. I have, however, used Mad God's "Cosmic Forge" editor to make a variety of changes to the game, like reducing the initiative penalty for two-handed weapons. That mod tool singlehandedly reinvigorated the game for me. You should check it out.
When it comes to first person dungeon hacks, I think Elder Scrolls - Battlespire is particularly underrated, it kinda flopped because it turned the ES faithful off with its lack of open-ended huge world but as a dungeon crawl it's pretty good - party of 1 only though

Battlespire is underrated also due to the absence of the long promised 3D Accelerators Support that I'm sure it would have guaranteed a +1 score
I am the "dude" playing Wizardry 8 on Youtube and I would re-buy the game when or if it ever came to GOG. It was a tough start as the early game is unforgiving but I have learned to love playing the game even though I am only about 17 hours into it.
