sk8ing667: 4chan is the bane of the internet, its name is not to be spoke :)

I go there from time to time, it's like a virtual stand-up comedy club.
stand-up comedy/porn/racism hub/evil source of all evil that can be found on the internet...club
"Post any pictures of beautiful girls you find here!", yep there was that topic, yep there was no moderation, yep, nobody posted one picture of a beautiful girl.
As others have stated, there is very very low-key moderation here. In the thread you mention above, images were posted -- but were moderated out. Titles have been changed and some topics locked. It's currently a rare occurrance, but is that due to the maturity of the community overall, or the fact that it's still relatively small?
As the popularity of GOG grows over the coming years, it is highly likely that the need for regular moderation (and not just the rating up or down of posts) will be required simply because the larger number of users will most likely cause a larger possibility for "undesirables" to arrive.
I certainly wouldn't put the assumed maturity of this forum down to the average ages of the users either, as I know of at least one other forum dealing with a similar subject as this one (ie, games) with a comparable age of users -- if not an even greater lack of those under 18 (actually, any account found to be held be an under 18 is banned) and yet that forum does see it's fair share of trouble and the need for moderation on a near daily basis.
The only real difference between that site and this one is that it has a larger number of members.
I wouldn't say it has a larger number of members at all. I would say there may be more accounts, but there are only a small handful of actual active users.
As far as there being a difference? I believe that this one is much more respectful.
An example, an older user and respected user said something very close to (I just can't remember exact wording) you and all kids should lock themselves in a basement and shut up, I've given up trying to help new members.
Personally I have never seen anything that disrespectful on this forum. If you don't wish for me to post this, just say the word. I have decided if one person says that they don't want this posted, I won't post out of respect, so bansama if you don't agree with me, by all means speak up, I'm not insulted.
Just one question, do you even know which forum I am speaking of?

bansama: The only real difference between that site and this one is that it has a larger number of members.

I think another factor is the catalog in question. The 13-year-old crowd who plays Halo regularly and scream to their mothers that they "want some f**king chocolate milk" without having the decency to mute their mics aren't interested in the classics, and the ones that are act in a much more dignified manner. The people who come here either grew up with these games when they were little or are interested in playing games like they used to be made, for an inexpensive price. To enjoy games such as these requires that you either be old enough to know what they are and have the desire to play them, or be mature enough to have an interest in playing older titles.
As time goes on and the catalog gets bigger, more and more games that were made in the 2000's will be put on the site, which will probably attract some people who have not entirely developed maturely. They may bring with them posts like that one guy who posted suggestive photos of girls he liked. If a moderation team is going to be formed, it should be made of dedicated users who know first hand what is well-intentioned and what isn't. Many of these users have displayed superb moderation skills, answering questions for new and experienced users, advising users when their conversation gets a little too rowdy, and so forth. If we ever get to the point where it is a necessary evil, these users would most likely be more than happy to take up the mantle and help safeguard and regulate the community they know and love.
For now, we are fine, so live it up, but don't get too obnoxious. Everyone (Well, almost everyone here) knows what is proper Internet etiquette and what isn't.
bansama I assumed when you said "it just has more members" or something along those lines, you were referring to the site I planned to post the blog on.
However I can safely assume that TheCheese33 does not condone my posting, so I shale refrain.
Lastly I would like to say that I think I may have been unclear about what the original post was about. I wont try to clarify because I think you may have to have been a member at both forums to understand what I was trying to do, just think of the blog as a complement. Anyway, thanks for your time everyone. We can just forget this confusing mess and move on.
Again, let me clarify that the site I reference is similar to GOG in that it does not have current mainstream "hardcore" games as its focus. The games are current, however, but not in the market that the 13 year-old Halo playing children would be interested in. The forum, which advertises a membership of over 200,000 accounts*, consists primarily of adults ranging from early 30s up to the late 70s (and a few stragglers on either end). And as I said, one of the rules that they do enforce is not knowingly allowing anyone under the age of 18 to post on the forum. The forum also does not allow the posting of external links or the attachment of images.
* Of course, that's accounts registered for purchasing games and not just for using the forum -- as the setup is similar to here, in that you need an account to buy games and the accout is also used for the forum.
And sk8ing667, I don't even know of which site you are reffering to =) Still, I think you should post it where you intend to. Just because it could create some interesting discussion, although I wouldn't expect it to change anything.
Classics FTW!
Anyways, I don't even think this website is moderated. For any reason it is or not, the community is full of mature people (Although I can't say if I am one for that matter...one too many wrongly named threads and topics =/ .), none who I've had any issues with (Just a few minor things) and the people here are all pretty much nice. Saying that, if you did read through the entire How Old Are You thread, the population on here is well around 75% above 32, the rest are around that age or as low as 13. Saying that, most of the people are older and more matured than some of us are, and saying that they have dealt with our shit longer than some other members. If this place is moderated, I have no idea for I have not seen any locked or deleted threads.
And if you are suggesting about putting a link to a heavily moderated board, GOG should do that because it opens up more business opportunity for GOG from the other board. Who DOESN'T like the classics anyway!? Oh, and to the comment about 13 year olds who play Halo, I play many online games and I rarely freak out about being fragged by a well placed shot. Sides, I've been known to go insane whenever I get in my possession a Crossbow or .357 (Half-Life 2: Deathmatch) and a Sniper Rifle, Pistol, or Battle Rifle (Halo Custom Edition.).
Good luck!
I say post it. And good for you for defying stereotypes. Glad you like it here.

What a waste of a good topic... :-(

No, no, no, you misunderstood me. If you are that age and are interested in games here, by all means post away! What I mean to say is that many (but not ALL) people your age are not mature enough to post here, nor would they want to, since at that age many youths are only interested in finding the most blood, explosions, language, and full-frontal nudity scenes they can. With your conduct, you have demonstrated that you are better than all that. I apologize for any misunderstandings. I do not mean to drive you away.
