Still do not own The Witcher... feh. Can't buy it on Steam where I live.

kuebk: There already was a patch which was fixing something with EAX + it removed DRM.

I don't think that was the case. It fixed an EAX issue and the blur effect as Kingoftherings said, but I'm pretty sure it still required the disc in the drive. I ended up finding a fixed exe so I wouldn't need the disc in the drive. I find that horribly annoying.
I also found it annoying that I paid full price for the EE (on purpose) instead of buying orig and installing the patches that way (which would have been MUCH cheaper), and still had to deal with a disc check.
I'm glad to hear of this patch, but am annoyed with the whole registration thing. Still, it's better than not having the option at all.

Heh, I was annoyed because I hadn't heard about the release date of TWEE, so I bought the Witcher just a few weeks before the release of it. I still bought TWEE though, since I wanted the big physical behemoth of a gamebox. Was pretty cheap anyways IMO.
I also ended up using a fixed exe. I tend to do it for all my singleplayer games, though I backup the original so that I can update if necessary.

Goddammit then explain to me why my retail EE with hotfix works without dvd in drive? I DON'T GET IT! : ) And I am NOT using any fixed cracked exe, I have pure original installation!

chautemoc: How cool are CDP? :D

Well, they must be cool, they run GOG and they sent me free stickers. :D

Kingoftherings: This was all I could find for patch notes:
1) EAX technology problems – this patch resolves problems related to EAX technology, which did not operate properly in conjunction with the game, generating critical errors when activated in the Game Options panel.
2) The patch also eliminates the blur (deriving from “glow” effect augmentation) remaining after cut scenes and dialogue sequences.

That's what I found too, had problems with running The Witcher with DVD in the drive - didn't know what to do, downloaded this patch and bang it works without DVD.
I dunno, maybe it's the US version that still requires the DVD. I'll test my copy today to see how it behaves.

I'm using Polish retail version bought in box, not downloaded.

Its like an official crack. :D
I probably should have bought the box. I regret purchasing the Impulse version, even if it was ten dollars cheaper than retail.

I am using czech retail version bought in box, and with that hotfix I can also run it without DVD.
I just installed The Witcher Enhanced Edition and applied the patch [url=http://www.thewitcher.com/community/en/news/804.html]from last December.
After that, the DVD was still required. Now why CDPR would treat US versions differently from others, I don't know.

You have boxed or downloaded version?
Boxed; the same one I linked to on Amazon.com
So the mystery is solved? American versions still have DRM while central european ones are DRM-free already. Huh.
